Cedarville edges Scots
ELKINS, W.Va. — Jon Brown and Derek Braak scored early in the second half to propel the No. 3 seeded Yellow Jackets to a 2-1 win over No. 2 Ohio Valley in a G-MAC Tournament semifinal. Three-time defending champion Cedarville, 11-6-3, will face No. 4 Alderson Broaddus, 10-7-2, for the second consecutive year in 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 final.
Following a scoreless first half, Brown scored just 66 seconds into the final period with Bryce Childers assisting. Brown received the ball at the left corner of the penalty area, beat an OVU defender, and then slid it underneath the keeper from 10 yards out inside the far post.
Braak provided some cushion unassisted in the 51st minute with a near carbon copy of Brown’s goal. He dribbled from just beyond the left side of the box, maneuvered around two defenders, and poked it under the keeper, far post. The Fighting Scots broke the shutout in the 72nd minute, but CU was able to withstand the pressure. Paulo Pinto made one save in goal.
SAAC Athlete of the Month
FAIRBORN — Senior defender Kaique Fernandes of the men’s soccer team has been selected as the Wright State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athlete of the Month, it was announced at the monthly meeting Nov. 3.
Fernandes scored three goals in six matches during the month as the Raiders won their first Horizon League regular-season title. After scoring the lone WSU goal in a 1-1 tie at Virginia Tech Oct. 11, he scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 decision over Cleveland State Oct. 22. Fernandes then scored Wright State’s first goal in a 2-1 overtime win over Milwaukee Oct. 29 that clinched the regular-season title.

Meet the FHS girls basketball team
FAIRBORN — The Fairborn girls basketball team will be introduced 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Fairborn Baker Middle School gymnasium. The Fairborn Skyhawks youth basketball teams, Baker Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade teams, and the Fairborn High School junior varsity and varsity teams will be introduced to the public and will demonstrate their skills. There will be concessions available, a 50/50 raffle, prizes and more.
Meet the team night at Beavercreek
BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek’s basketball teams will be introduced 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 in the Ed Zink Fieldhouse at Beavercreek High School. The boys and girls high school and middle school teams will there along with cheerleaders, the pep band, the Beaverettes and the Beavercreek Stars.
