PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — Taylor Holt and Jordan Reese earned All-America honors in leading the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets to a sixth-place finish at the NCCAA Men’s Golf Championship on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

“Taylor (Holt) really finished well individually with an eagle, birdie, and par in his last three holes to earn All-America honors. Jordan (Reese) struggled, but held on to also earn well deserved All-America recognition,” CU coach Ryan Bowen said.

Cedarville tallied 307-313-321 — 941 to end up in the middle of the 12-team field at the par-72 The Hombre Golf Club.

Colorado Christian won the tournament for the third straight year with 310-300-304 — 914.

“The Hombre played a bit tougher today with stronger winds and a tougher course set up,” Bowen said. “We set out to improve our position, but got off to a poor start and then did not play hole 12 well which really prevented us from making a run.”

Holt made a charge on the final day to grab an All-America position. He tied for fifth place with a 77-75-75 — 227.

Reese was among four players to tie for ninth place with 72-75-82 — 229.

Freshman Jared Hoelzen posted his best round of the tournament and totaled 84-83-79 — 246.

John Sandlas tallied 85-80-85 — 250 while Carter Ehms had 74-88-88 — 250.

Sandlas and Jeremy Royer were recognized as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes. The list includes juniors and seniors, who maintain a minimum 3.40 cumulative grade-point average.

“Even though we wanted to finish better as a team, I’m pleased with the improvement these guys have shown this fall,” said Bowen. “I’m looking forward to seeing how they improve even more with our work throughout the winter in preparation for the spring.”

• Holt and Reese are the fourth and fifth CU golfers, respectively, to be NCCAA All-Americans.

• Scott Aker (2006, 2007) is the only Yellow Jacket two-time All-American.

• Cedarville has had three better team finishes in 13 total NCCAA appearances: tie for third (2006) and tie for fifth (2007, 2008).

• Twelve of Holt’s 13 rounds this season have been at 77 or lower.

• The Jackets placed sixth or better in four of six tournaments this fall.
