Charity softball game to raise money for The Blue Star Mothers of America

DAYTON — The Dayton Police Department and the Dayton Fire Department have teamed up with the Dayton Dragons to host the third annual “Battle of the Badges,” a charity softball game, on Sunday, July 19, 2015 to benefit The Blue Star Mothers of America. The Dragons host the Fort Wayne TinCaps at 2 p.m. that afternoon and the softball game between Dayton’s finest will follow.

Before the softball game commences, the Young Marines Color Guard will present our nation’s colors. The National Anthem will be performed by Air Force Veteran Bryan Daly. Nicole Zanowick, the sister of fallen hero Cpl. Paul Zanowick II, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Cpl. Zanowick, known as “Rocky” of Miamisburg, was killed in action in Afghanistan June 3, 2011.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Dragons Box Office at (937) 228-2287. Each purchased ticket earns one person admission to the Dragons game at 2 p.m. vs. Fort Wayne as well as the Battle of the Badges contest. There are a limited number of tickets available.

The Blue Star Mothers of America are mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans. They support each other and their children while promoting patriotism. The organization focuses on its mission every single day to never, ever, forsake our troops, our veterans or the families of our Fallen Heroes.
