Fairborn drops close tennis match

FAIRBORN — The Skyawks turned in a solid performance against Clayton Northmont Aug. 31, but their best wasn’t “quite enough” according to coach Doug Coy, in a 3-2 tennis loss.

Kyla Secrest cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles, while Preslee Chapman and Shayna won at first doubles, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7. Brooklyn Hunter lost, 1-6, 0-6, at first singles, while Acadia Wulf lost, 3-6, 2-6, at second singles. The second doubles team of Megan Koonce and Paige Murry lost, 2-6, 1-6.

Fairborn blanked by Tipp

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn girls soccer team dropped to 1-3-1 after an 8-0 loss to Tippecanoe. Tipp is 4-0 overall.

Bellbrook golfers lose

BELLBROOK — Bellbrook’s reserve boys golf team lost, 191-217 to Troy at the par 36 Miami Shores Golf Course. Hunter Turner paced the Golden Eagles with a 49. Danny Gallagher shot 55, Benton Miller 56 and David Duckro 57.

Greeneview loses twice on court

JAMESTOWN — Greeneview’s girls tennis team dropped a pair of non-league matches recently. The Rams were blanked 5-0 by Xenia Aug. 24.

Ellie Adkins, Molly Nixon and Ciara Reffitt played singles, while Katy Hilbig and Erin Miller, and Sara Givens and Marinda Shoemaker, were the doubles teams.

On Aug. 25 Dayton Stivers beat the Rams, 3-2. Nixon won her match at second singles, 6-2, 6-2, while Reffitt took the No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 3-6, 10-5 (tiebreaker).

Anna Willingham and Gace Lucus played a reserve match against Stivers, losing 3-6.

Dual at the DeWine’s

CEDARVILLE — Attorney General Mike DeWine and his wife, Fran, are hosting the Dual at the DeWine’s cross country meet 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3. The races are dual meets and will be run on a farm next to the DeWine’s home, 2587 Conley Road. Boys races are: Mason vs. Thomas Worthington 10 a.m.; Beavercreek vs. Dublin Coffman 10:45 am.; Olentangy Orange vs. Kings Mills Kings 11:30 a.m.; and Olentangy Liberty vs. Cincinnati St. Xavier 12:15 p.m. Girls races begin 10:50 a.m. with Troy vs. Thomas Worthington. Dublin Coffman and Kings race 11:35 a.m.; and Beavercreek and Olentangy Orange race 12:20 p.m.

Xenia Tornadoes tryouts set

XENIA — The Xenia Tornadoes semi-professional football team will hold a tryout for its 2017 team at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at Spring Hill Park, located just off Ormsby Drive. Tryouts are free, make sure you bring water cleats and shorts. Tryouts will consist of agility drills, route running, and more.

Rain wins again

DEGRAFF — Shady Bowl Speedway will not be racing on Saturday, Sept. 3. This will give the locals drivers and fans to attend Speedfest at Winchester, Ind. The Bowl will also be shut down on Saturday, Sept. 10. This date marks the last race ever at Columbus Motor Speedway after seventy one years of racing allowing fans and drivers one more chance to see racing at the Obetz oval. The next race at the Bowl will be on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Drifting Series heads to Kil-Kare Raceway

WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Midwest Drift Union will bring the third round of its Championship Series to Kil-Kare Raceway on Sept. 17 in Xenia. The MDU was founded in 2010 as a Midwest regional feeder series with the intention of advancing the area’s top drifting competitors to the professional level. Last season, the top-3 drivers were rewarded with a Formula Drift Pro 2 competitors license.
