FAIRBORN — Ervin J. Nutter was born in Hamilton, Ohio in 1914, he became the youngest licensed engineer in Ohio. He first worked for Proctor and Gamble, then Wright Patterson Air Force Base. In 1951, in a garage he began his own manufacturing business, called Elano, fabricating metal parts for jet engines. The business grew to influence aviation nationwide. A philanthropist interested in sports, he donated 1.5 of the over $34 million needed to build the E. J. Nutter Center at Wright Stat University.
