Remembering Rev. Armstrong

SUGARCREEK TOWNSHIP — Rev. Robert Armstrong was born in Scotland. He was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1797 and came shortly thereafter to America as a Missionary. He began preaching in Kentucky but soon came to Greene County where he established the Massie’s Creek and Sugar Creek congregations. It is said that if the river he had to cross from one church to the other was high, he would use stilts to cross. He died in 1821 and is buried in the Stevenson Cemetery.
