Why refrigerators are really used

0

I think I have finally figured out what refrigerators are for.

I firmly believe we put them in our kitchens and recreation rooms and basements and garages so we have a good place to post reminders of all the things we need to know and do.

Sure, my refrigerator keeps my food and beer and fresh vegetables and milk and gosh knows what else cold but it doubles quite well as one humongous bulletin board.

Pick a day, any day and if you look at my big, white kitchen bulletin board – I mean refrigerator – there’s a real good chance you’ll find lots and lots of little two and three-word grocery lists and several hastily-scrawled notes that remind me to pay this month’s electric bill so I can still read my daily newspaper AFTER the evening sun goes down, car payments that are due to be paid and so on and so on and so on.

One of the notes on the fridge right now orders me to “take the trash out to the curb on Wednesday.

Another tells me to “get a haircut on Thursday.”

Then, of course, there also are all those snapshots, greeting cards, out-dated calendars, pictures drawn by my grandkids and of course those little-bitty slips of paper with telephone numbers scribbled on them.

If someone calls me and leaves his or her telephone number I jot it down on any slip of paper available and then I slap it onto my refrigerator.

There may not be much inside my refrigerator but the outside is always plastered with an assortment of items.

There is also a calendar on the fridge right now but there’s no space left on it for any more messages and, besides the calendar is a 2013 calendar.

The bad thing about it all is that most of my shorter refrigerator reminders aren’t very good reminders at all.

Like the note that reads “Anniversary party at 7 p.m.

The sad thing is I didn’t write down the date of the alleged party and I haven’t the foggiest idea who the party was for.
