Remembering Lucille Stroup

SPRING VALLEY — Born in 1901, Lucille Stroup earned a B.S. from Wilmington College. In 1945, she moved to Spring Valley where she taught school for 23 years. She was chairman of the Home Arts Building for the Greene County Fair for 23 years and supervised the preparation of 600 pies for the dining hall at the fairgrounds. Active in her community, she was 1984 Citizen of the Year, received the Outstanding Community Service Award and was inducted into the Greene County Women’s Hall of Fame. She also provided candy and cookies for the Potato Festival.
