XENIA — The Ohio State University Extension Sustainable Agriculture Team, along with Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association, Advanced Eco Agriculture, Columbus Agrarian Society, and Our Harvest Research and Education Institute would like to invite you to attend one of the many sustainable agriculture farm tours in Ohio this summer through fall.

What is Sustainable Agriculture? Innovative farming practices that promote profitability, stewardship of the land, air, water, and quality of life for farmers, ranchers, and their communities over the long term. This holistic approach to agriculture involves integrated plant and animal systems with site specific applications. (SARE, 2012).

Featured on this tour are 32 organic and ecological farms and businesses in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, all offering a unique opportunity for farmers, families, or the food conscience to learn about sustainable agriculture and local foods on the farm from growers and producers with many years of hands on experience. In addition to the planned tours, this year’s farm tour series is also offering 10 additional workshops on water quality, grass-fed beef, poultry production, season extension, beekeeping, permaculture, biochar, carcass scanning, and organic production.

All tours and workshops are free and open to the public and do not require pre-registration unless otherwise noted.

For more information about the 2016 Sustainable Farm Tour and Workshop series stop by the Greene County OSU Extension office at 100 Fairground Road to pick up a tour guide or go to www.greene.osu.edu to find an electronic copy of the guide under the Agriculture and Natural Resources tab.
