FAIRBORN —The kids are out of school, the weather has hit 80 degrees and the sun sets after 9 p.m. — summer is here, and the Fairborn Parks and Recreation Division is offering family friendly activities throughout the season.

Kicking off the recreation is a free community movie night featuring “Inside Out” Friday, June 3 at Central Park, 222. S. Central Ave.

“Inside Out” is a Disney Pixar movie released in June 2015, and focuses on an 11-year-old girl named Riley and her basic emotions: joy, sadness, fear, disgust and anger. These emotions come into play specifically when Riley’s family moves from Minnesota to California, and while the emotions are bouncing off one another, Riley is trying to cope with all the changes in her life.

The event includes popcorn and offers free kids activities such as a bounce house, face painting and other activities beginning 7 p.m. The spray ground will continue to run until the movie begins, near dusk, approximately 9 p.m.

This event officially kicks-off the eight Free-on-Fridays events that are offered each summer through the Fairborn Parks and Recreation Division.

Continuing the summer events is the division’s summer concert series, which will feature big band Ohio Valley British Brass Band Friday, June 10. Next, bluegrass group the Dixie Ryders will take the stage Friday, June 17. Sixties classic rock will be on display when Rock It 88 performs Friday, June 24. The Kettering Civic Band will perform Friday, July 8. Bluegrass music will be the focus Friday, July 15 when Berachah Valley takes the stage. Next, Dayton Dave, a variety group performing rock, country and blues will perform Friday, July 22. The Fairborn Civic Band will wrap up the series Friday, July 29.

Each will start 7 p.m. and is free to attend. Concert attendees should bring their own lawn chairs. All concerts take place at Community Park in the Atherton Amphitheater, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road. In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will be performed in the auditorium of Fairborn High School located next to Community Park.
