FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce and Wright State University held the 40th Fairborn Anniversary Celebration. This event is held yearly and fosters the support of Fairborn area businesses, and Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce members showing support for it and Wright State University coming together in partnership.

For the first time this year, it took place at the CJ McLin Auditorium instead of the Berry Room as the amount of attendees outgrew the space.

The theme was Mardi Gras, and included beads of green, gold and purple, as well as roses and balloons decorating the event, along with a variety of foods served buffet-style to be enjoyed by all.

Dr. David Hopkins, president of Wright State University, was crowned king of the night.

“Due to the success of Wright State, we have bragging rights and are proud of Senior Student Emily Bingham advancing on Jeopardy! College Championship, Tom Hanks the actor coming and … sometime in April and the Presidential Debate this fall, of which someone from the debate will be our next President,” Hopkins said.

A round of applause was given out after the announcement. Executive Director Paul Newman Jr. of the Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce spoke next, reading off the list of supporters who donated gifts.

The group then moved from the McLin Auditorium to the Gym, where the Fairborn Chamber Chorale, under the musical director Karen Gorretta, sang the National Anthem opening for the Wright State Men’s Basketball game. The team won the game.
