Fairborn — The first of two April 2022 Fairborn City Council meetings was held on Monday, April 4. All city council members were present, with the meeting presided over by Fairborn City Mayor Paul Keller.
A series of proclamations were then read and rewarded to appropriate representatives, declaring:
April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Greene County child advocacy center Michael’s House manager Teresa Wiles accepted the proclamation.
Monday, April 11 through Friday, April 15 as CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) Week. This proclamation was received by Development Services Assistant Director Missy Frost.
April as Fair Housing Month, whose proclamation was also accepted by Frost.
Monday, April 4 as Marty Heide Day in honor of Heide’s tireless dedication and work as longtime staffer to Congressman Mike Turner and as celebration of Heide’s retirement from that office.
Various ordinances were discussed by a lineup of representatives presenting short Powerpoint slideshow presentations including those involving: The amending of the zoning code map for the City of Fairborn (approved); adopting a new pay schedule and labor agreement for employees in the service of the city (approved); the authorization of the city to participate in a salt bid process and contract with Southwest Ohio Purchasers for Government of Road Salt (approved); and authorization of the purchase of a pump replacement at the water reclamation center (approved).
Subsequent to these ordinance approvals were citizens of Fairborn who came up to speak about pertinent topics involving an invitation of the council members to an Earth Day event sponsored by Sustainable Fairborn and Spark, concerns about further drainage issues on the outskirts of the city, and issues resulting from Fairborn’s ongoing stray cat problem.
The council members then each closed out the meeting with final words that were brief and included suggestions that Fairborn citizens keep Ukraine on their minds and in their hearts, and that they were pleased citizens of Fairborn feel free and confident enough to voice their concerns at public meetings.
The next public city council meeting will be held in the council chambers at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 18.
