YELLOW SPRINGS – Twenty six artists will participate in the final Studio Tour, featuring ceramics, fiber, mixed media, printing, mixed, woodworking, sculpture, jewelry, glass, paintings and more. The work is a combination of award winning, whimsical, narrative and thought provoking.
Many of the artists are nationally and internationally acclaimed through a variety of awards, accolades, articles, books and exhibitions. All will have work available for sale. Studios will be open to the public 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18.
This event began in 2004 as a biannual event and metamorphosed into an annual event with even more participating artists to visit from throughout the region. Curator and Organizer Lisa Goldberg feels that she has always had an eye for bringing the highest quality of art from around the region to one of the best arts event in the area.
Collectors and art lovers travel from all over Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Michigan and Indiana, according to event organizers, to take advantage of the informal face-to-face visits with artists while learning about their processes, techniques and growth. The tour provides an opportunity to make personal connections to better understand the artists’ inspiration and process, while developing relationships with the artists.
The tour has earned a reputation as a source of high quality art with an intriguing array of accomplished, artistic expression. Participating artists repeatedly say that they enjoy the attendees.
“[I] enjoy the knowledgeable and appreciative audience that they find with visitors on the tour”. Fifteenth-year participant Bruce Grimes said. “It has been a privilege to work with such high quality fellow artists and a sheer pleasure meeting so many fine individuals who are interested in supporting the artists today.”
This is a unique opportunity to meet artists who do what they love and to make purchases directly from the source. The tour also provides a perfect opportunity for interior designers and gallery owners to make new connections and discover new work for their clients.
This event varies each year, as new artists are invited to participate in the tour along with tenured artists; six artists who are new to the tour.
“[I’m particularly] excited that there will be so many new talented artists, along with old favorites,” Goldberg said. “The driving tour provides an opportunity for collectors, art enthusiasts and weekend shoppers to personally visit these creative artists studios and get a head start on their holiday shopping while being able to choose from a broad spectrum of art at all prices.”
Many businesses sponsor this event, including WCBE radio (90.5 FM) and WYSO radio (91.3), who serve as the official media sponsors. Organizers are partnering with the Yellow Springs Chamber to create an occasion for visitors to spend the weekend exploring the arts in the village.
The tour is free self-guided driven. A list of participating artists and maps marking the studio locations may be downloaded atwww.YSArts.org. On the day of the tour, these maps will also be available at: Young’s Jersey Dairy north of town, The Winds Café and the Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce downtown.
