XENIA — Activity is buzzing at the Greene County Airport, with the facility’s fixed base operator (FBO), MacAir Aviation and the MacAir Aero Club, topping 1,000 hours of flight training in July, with more than 82 flight hours in a single day.

MacAir is the private company contracted by the airport to provide flight training, aircraft rentals, aircraft maintenance and other support to local and transient planes. Since MacAir took over the FBO responsibilities at the Greene County Airport in 2010, the company has grown from two airplanes and a few pilots to operate 28 aircraft, providing more than $3 million in flight training annually, and supporting hundreds of local pilots today, according to MacAir information.

In 2012 the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Aero Club joined MacAir and since then, the combined MacAir Aero Club has continued to expand, adding 52 additional members so far this year bringing its total to close to 200 members.

“The addition of the aero club to our operations was a significant enhancement,” MacAir owner Ross McNutt said. “It brought a core cadre of experienced instructors and maintenance personnel to the operations that allowed us to expand and offer additional services to a broader group.”

The club has added four planes this year, including an Acrobatic Decathlon, a Piper Arrow, a Piper Archer and a Cirrus SR-22 aircraft.

With its growth, MacAir is also looking to looking to expand into new areas. The company is currently in the initial approval process to provide private charter flight services from Greene County Airport and to support fractional aircraft ownership programs which allow people to purchase part of an aircraft and share the costs with others.

The company is also looking to expand, having outgrown its current facilities.

“We are excited about the opportunity to continue to grow our operations at Greene County and to expand our operations,” McNutt said. “We do need additional space as we have filled every square inch of space at the airport.”

The club has been teaching individuals to fly in Greene County since 1946 and currently supports flight training programs through Wright State, Clark State, the Veterans Administration and directly to the public. MacAir is also currently working with Beavercreek schools to bring aviation options to students.

MacAir Aero Club will hold an open house Sept. 26 and is offering discounted $25 introductory aircraft flight lessons for those who want to try their hand at flying. To learn more about MacAir visit macair.us or stop by the Greene County Airport.
