FAIRBORN — The air is getting crispier as the leaves are shifting from shades of green to mustard-yellows and browns. Fall is well on its way and the City of Fairborn’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting events in spirit of the season.

To register for any of these programs, pick up a form and drop off a check at the Fairborn Parks and Recreation Office, 461 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road; the City of Fairborn Government Center, 44 W. Hebble Ave. or by calling 937-754-3090.

Heart of Ohio pastels

Children aged 5 years old and up are invited to celebrate their state by creating a map of Ohio with pastels on watercolor paper. Participants will first create a pallet look followed by the shape of the State of Ohio. Attendees can then choose how they want the state to look on the inside, choosing colors or patterns as they wish. A heart will be glued to the creation at the end to symbolize where in Ohio the participant lives.

It takes place 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery, 415 W. Main St. It costs $15 to participate and all supplies are provided. Individuals must be registered by Sept. 12.

Hummingbirds soccer

Children between 3-6 years old are invited to learn the basics of soccer, learning dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting, positioning and defending. Sessions are designed to include introductions to all aspects of the game in non-competitive games. It runs 10-11 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 16-Oct. 28 with an exception to Oct. 14 at Community Park, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road for $55.

T-Birds T-Ball

Children between 3-5 years old can learn the basics of baseball, including throwing, catching, holding, batting and base running. Players will also play in fun, non-competitive games. All players will receive a team shirt and MLB hat. It runs 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 18-Oct. 23 at Community Park. It costs $60 to participate.

Lacrosse

Kindergarten through fifth grade students may learn the basics of lacrosse, including passing and catching, fielding ground balls, spacing, positioning and more. They will be divided by gender and age to play game scrimmages. It takes place 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays Sept. 20-Oct. 25 and costs $55 to participate.

Heart of Ohio painting

Adults are invited to paint either an 8-by-10 inch or 16-by-20 inch canvas of Ohio in front of a background that resembles a pallet. Participants will also paint a heart over the area in which they live.

Terri Perkins, who will instruct the activity and owns Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery, advises participants to wear old clothing as acrylic paint will stain. It takes place 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery. An 8-by-10 inch canvas costs $15, while a 16-by-20 inch canvas costs $35. Individuals must be registered by Tuesday, Sept. 19.
