FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Government Affairs Breakfast, which will feature Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted in which he will give attendees an update on current happenings in his office.

Doors will open 7:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1 at the Fairborn Senior Center, 325 N. Third St. Husted will begin speaking at 8 a.m.

Husted has served as the 53rd and current Ohio Secretary of State since 2011. In this role, he serves as the chief elections officer for one of the nation’s most hotly-contested swing states with the goal of making it both easy to vote and hard to cheat.

The secretary of state’s office also serves as the first stop for entrepreneurs seeking to start a new business in Ohio – a process Husted has revolutionized, according to the chamber, by allowing all Ohio-based businesses to be started and renewed online and by reducing the cost for starting and maintaining a business, making Ohio the least-costly state in the region. As a result, Ohio has seen record growth for new businesses for each of the past seven years.

Husted also reduced spending in his office by $14.5 million in his first term alone and has reduced the size of the secretary of state staff by 32 percent since taking office. These efficiency’s have resulted in Husted’s ability to run the office entirely without the use of taxpayer dollars for the remainder of his term.

Raised in Montpelier, Ohio, Husted earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Dayton, where he was a member of the 1989 Division III National Championship Football Team. With all his responsibilities, Husted considers his most important role as that of husband to his wife Tina and father to his children, Alex, Katie and Kylie.

While the event is free and open to all business owners and citizens, registration is required and space is limited. Register with the Fairborn Chamber of Commerce at 937-878-3191 or [email protected].
