New, returning WSU students ready to move in

FAIRBORN — More than 1,300 new students are set to move in during Wright State University’s annual Move-In Day 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24.

During the day, much of the Wright State community turns out to help new students move into 29 residence halls and on-campus apartments.

Move-In Day will include 110 golf carts, a fleet of luggage rollers, about 200 staff and faculty volunteers, and 300 upperclassmen volunteers who will wrap up their summer vacations early to help their new peers settle on campus.

“Students choose to live on campus because it’s convenient,” said Dan Bertsos, director of Residence Life and Housing. “The benefits of living on campus include developing autonomy by managing your own affairs, developing maturity and connecting to the campus better because you’re here all the time.”

This year, another 1,200 upperclassmen will move into residence halls and apartments on Saturday, Aug. 26.

“People generally enjoy the experience and find it to be a good day,” Bertsos said. “If there are tears, they are happy tears.”

New residents may want to consider bringing the following items: extra long twin size sheets (mattress size 36″x80″); mattress pad or cover, pillows and comforter/bedspread; rugs; computer; alarm clock; desk lamp; television; touch-tone phone; wastebasket; bathmat; towels; Toiletries (shampoo, soap, razor, toilet paper, etc.); seasonal clothing; hamper; umbrella; cooking utensils/can opener; and plates, cups, silverware.

Some items — such as hot plates and pets other than fish — should be left at home.

For more information about acceptable dorm items and the complete Move-In Day schedule and check-in information, future residents should visit the Residence Life and Housing website at https://www.wright.edu/residence-life-and-housing/campus-living/move-in.

The first day of class is Monday, Aug. 28.
