FAIRBORN — Wright State University will host orientation Wednesday, Aug. 23 for the summer.

Around 2,200 new and transfer students have attended an orientation session to register for fall classes, meeting with academic advisors, learning about the university’s computing and telecommunication services and having their picture taken for their student ID.

The goal for each orientation session is for each student to feel comfortable and that Wright State was the right choice for college.

“A lot of people meet their best friends here, they meet their housing roommates, they meet future mentors,” said Brittany Williams, a senior theatre studies major and orientation guide.

During orientation, students are split into small groups to introduce themselves, interact and find common interest with others.

“It’s pretty fun, and I got to meet a lot of new people,” said Kaylyn Hurles, an incoming freshman who plans to major in nursing.

Orientation makes the transition to college smooth for new students and provides them with the skills needed to succeed. The event is setup for each student to have an excellent academic experience, coupled with opportunities to become involved on campus and in the community.

“We really believe that orientation is not just about the first day of class. But it really is getting students engaged in the institution and really making sure they’re successful so they can graduate in those four years,” said Don Miller, director of orientation.

The entire class of 2021 will attend a mandatory fall orientation Friday, Aug. 25. New students will meet with faculty and staff from their academic college, get tips on how to excel in the classroom and learn more about support services available for students.
