XENIA — The Dayton Foundation awarded grants to eleven Greater Dayton nonprofit organizations in June, including the Family Violence Prevention Center.

The Family Violence Prevention Center (FVPC) received $2,000 to repair and replace the center’s fire sprinkler heads.

According to Jaime Lennon, acting director at FVPC, several sprinkler heads were found with paint on them during a recent inspection by the center’s fire and security system company. Reportedly, the paint could potentially cause the sprinklers to malfunction if they were needed in case of a fire. The fire department also verified that the sprinklers needed attention.

“As this was not a planned and budgeted item for the year, it was necessary to search out and apply for a grant to cover such a need,” Lennon said.

The Dayton Foundation’s Greenlight Grants program awards small grants to area nonprofit organizations to help with quick needs, like special projects.

“We felt this grant was a great fit because the sprinkler system is crucial to our ability to keep those we serve in our Safe House safe if a fire were to happen in our building and this type of grant looks to strengthen non-profits and help us efficiently serve those in need,” Lennon said.

Work on the sprinkler system is scheduled to begin Wednesday, July 5.

The Dayton Foundation awarded grants to eleven organizations totaling $233,520 through the foundation’s discretionary grants and Greenlight Grants programs.

The grants promote efforts in the areas of arts and culture, health, education, human services, philanthropy and other community-building endeavors.
