FAIRBORN — The City of Fairborn was named by Expedia as one of the most patriotic towns in the United States, crediting its festive Fourth of July activities and proximity to the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
On a year-round basis, however, the city shows its patriotism with symbolic events hosted at each veteran-focused holiday as well as the current work being done by the Fairborn Veterans Memorial Committee, which established a goal of constructing a walk-up memorial to honor all local individuals who served on the lawn of the Central Avenue senior apartments.
Expedia said the featured patriotic cities “prove their commitment to America through acts of service, celebrations, connections to history and more.”
The Fairborn Fourth of July Block Party will take place 4-10 p.m. Monday, July 3 on Main Street. It will feature a variety of food vendors, rides and music.
“Fairborn is a community with stars and stripes in its eyes,” Expedia wrote.
The Fourth of July fun continues the following day, Tuesday, July 4 with the city’s annual Fourth of July parade and fireworks display. The parade takes place 10 a.m., while the fireworks will take place at dusk at Community Park.
Other featured patriot cities include Gallup, New Mexico; Chicago, Illinois; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Addison, Texas; Rock Hill, South Carolina; Boston, Massachusetts; Bristol, Rhode Island; Alameda, California; Jefferson City, Missouri; St. Louis, Missouri; Virginia City, Nevada; Put-in-Bay, Ohio; Pueblo, Colorado; San Diego, California; The Black Hills, South Dakota and Duluth, Minnesota;
