XENIA — A legal settlement that began in 1995 is now over, ending with a $1.1 million payment from the county to Valley Springs Farm.

The Greene County Commissioners approved the voucher at their meeting last week.

An agreement originated in which the county located water wells on the property, located South of Xenia, and obtained easements for the property’s sewer and water lines. In exchange, payment was made for the property and easements. The county was then obligated to install two roads, estimated at $25 million.

Disagreements surfaced regarding the exchanging of deeds and installment of roads. Over the years, discussions and negotiation continued.

After recent litigation, the county decided to take another step forward.

In an effort to resolve the litigation, and in order for the county to receive its deeds, receive its easements, and no longer be obligated to install the roads, the settlement has ended with an exchange of 1.1 million dollars, and the delivery of permanent easements and deed to the well field property.

The settlement agreement has been in negotiation for 18 months, County Administrator Brandon Huddleson said.

“I think both parties are happy with the result of this,” he said.

The commissioners agreed that it was necessary for the 21-year-old settlement to be solved.

“I think it’s time. I think it needed to be done and I think this is where it needed to go,” County Commissioner Alan Anderson said as the commissioners approved the voucher.
