GREENE COUNTY – The Sunshine Community Fund Charter, which was established in 2015 by Wright-Patt Credit Union, has announced its Sunshine Community Champions — Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley and Habitat for Humanity of Dayton.

The Sunshine Community Fund Charter was established to formalize WPCU’s philanthropic support and continued commitment to the betterment of organizations and programs in the region. Through the fund, two nonprofit community organizations – Sunshine Community Champions – are identified each year to receive monies raised by WPCU partner-employees, vendors and business partners.

WPCU launched its 2016-17 Sunshine Community Fund campaign during a recent partner-employee training day. There, the organization announced a goal to raise $200,000 by June 2017 for its chosen Sunshine Community Champions.

Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley said it empowers people with a hand up, not a hand out. Their services help children and adults across the age spectrum to live their lives more independently. They help support veterans facing multiple issues due to their wide program scope – mental health, addiction recovery services, financial education and addressing family concerns.

Habitat for Humanity develops communities with people in need by building, renovating and repairing houses so that there are decent and affordable homes in safe communities where families can live and grow.

The beneficiaries were chosen by a partner-employee led selection committee who reviewed over 90 applications. The selection committee participated in face-to-face candidate interviews and on-site visits as part of their evaluation.
