YELLOW SPRINGS — The Greene County Public Library Foundation will be hosting a fundraiser at Yellow Springs Brewery on Monday, Oct. 3 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The event, Books and Beer, is open to anyone over 21 years old. Tickets are $25—the amount of money it takes to fund a child enrolled in the program for one year. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online (booksandbeer.org). Yellow Springs Brewery will of course be supplying the drinks and boxed meals will be provided by local bakery, Harvest Moon. All proceeds go directly to Greene County’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library program.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library program is a literacy effort that puts books directly into the hands of children ages 0-5, when brain development is paramount. Any Greene County child under the age of five can be registered for free. Established in 2013, the Greene County Dolly Parton Imagination Library program currently has 4,048 children enrolled with over 2,100 graduates. To date, more than 112,000 books have been delivered to Greene County children via the Imagination Library.

This is the Foundation’s second time hosting the fundraiser at the Yellow Springs brewery. Last year’s event raised over $12,000 for the Dolly Parton Imagination Program. “Literacy is a key to success later in life,” says Foundation President, Brian Lusardi. “We are happy to partner with local businesses to secure a solid future for the children of our county.”

This year the Foundation is also selling tickets to become a member of its 125 Club. The 125 Club costs $125 and will sponsor a child for the entirety of their time in the program (from ages 0-5). As a thank you, members will receive a commemorative Books and Beer mug.
