Road closures
GREENE COUNTY — The Greene County Engineer has announced the following projects which are weather dependent.
The bridge on Roxanna New Burlington Road in Spring Valley Township will be closed for approximately 60 days as a part of the 2016 Greene County Bridge Maintenance Project beginning Monday, Sept. 12. The closure will only be at the bridge that is located between State Route 380 and Cornstalk Road.
The bridge on Wilberforce-Clifton Road in the Village of Clifton will be closed for approximately 60 days to replace the bridge beginning on Monday, Sept. 26. This is a revised closure date. The closure will be between Clifton Road and Water Street.
The Indian Ripple Road in Beavercreek Township will be closed for approximately one week for utility work beginning Monday, Sept. 26. The closure will be between James River Road and S. Alpha Bellbrook Road.
Council meeting
FAIRBORN — The next regular council meeting will take place 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 within the council chambers at the Fairborn Government Center, 40 W. Hebble Ave. Regular council meetings always take place the first and third Mondays of each month at the same time and place, unless otherwise noted.
Batty About Bats
FAIRBORN — Participate in the “Batty About Bats” program 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 at the Fairborn Library, 1 E. Main St. This Sense of Place Program will be presented by Donna Lewis of the Clark County Park District and Stephanie Hylinski of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery.
Meet Hiccup, a live Jamaican Fruit Bat, from the Boonshoft Museum. The Sense of Place Program is sponsored monthly by the B-W Greenway Community Land Trust, a non-profit conservation organization and the Fairborn Library. Pre-retirement seminar for teachers
BEAVERCREEK — Greene County Retired Teachers Association is planning a free pre-retirement planning seminar 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Beavercreek Nazarene Church, 1850 N. Fairfield Road. The event is for all Ohio Public School teachers and administrators that are within two years or less of retirement.
Speaking will be representatives from State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, the Association Member Benefits Advisers, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and the Greene County Teachers Association.

BOE meeting
FAIRBORN — The Fairborn City School District Board of Education invites the public to its meetings, which take place 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month within the library at Fairborn High School, 900 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road. The next school board meeting will take place Thursday, Oct. 6.
Parent Night
FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Intermediate School PTO is sponsoring “Parent Night” 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. Jody Johnson Pawtel will be presenting “Getting Kids to Cooperate the First Time” in which attendees will learn three practical tools to help with students to get results right away. The event is open to all Fairborn parents and teachers.
Meet the Candidates
XENIA — A bi-partisan Meet the Candidates event, hosted by the Greene County Tea Party, will take place 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center, 130 E. Church Street. State and county candidates have been invited. Candidates in contested races, including the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, Ohio House and Senate, Ohio Supreme Court and State Board of Education, will have the opportunity to take the stage for three minutes each. Candidates in uncontested races have been invited to participate in informal chat with attendees. The Meet the Candidates event will also discuss county-level issues, offering information about the Greene County Vocational Schools .75 renewal levy, as well as the Greene Memorial Hospital 0.5 mill renewal levy. Healthy U workshop
BEAVERCREEK — The Area Agency on Aging and Greene County Council on Aging urge seniors to start down your own path to better health by attending Healthy U, where you will learn skills and coping strategies needed to manage your symptoms and live a healthier life.
The series of six weekly workshops 1-4 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 18 through Nov. 22 at the Beavercreek Nazarene Church, 1850 North Fairfield Road. Space is limited and advance registration is required by calling Susan Finster at 937-376-5486, or email [email protected].
Workshops are open to adults of any age who have a chronic health condition and/or their caregivers. There is no charge for participants who are 60 years of age or older, and the $15 fee for younger participants is paid by the Greene County Council on Aging. Everyone who completes the course receives the companion textbook, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions.
Baker Middle students gather
FAIRBORN — Fifth Quarter – established in 2002, provides a safe place for Fairborn’s seventh and eighth grade students to gather and fellowship. During the Fairborn High School Skyhawks football season, Fifth Quarter is open after every home game from 9:15 –11:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 821, N. Central Ave. After football season is over, Fifth Quarter is open the first and third Friday night of each month from 7:15 to 9:30 p.m. Adult chaperones are on hand to welcome and assist the youth at every meeting. It aims to include activities for every attendee, such as a PlayStation 2, Wii and Xbox gaming systems, and features a new release movie weekly on a big screen television.
Refreshments are provided, and Fifth Quarter officials ask that students conduct and dress guidelines. For further information contact the church office at 937-878-5701.
Legion community participation
FAIRBORN — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 526 General membership meetings are held 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month at Legion Post 526, 526 Legion Lane. All members are encouraged to attend. The executive committee meets the first Monday of the month at the same location.
The Unit also holds a Roast Beef Hot Shot Dinner 5-7:30 p.m. the fourth Friday of each month at the Post. The funds raised are used to support Auxiliary programs, such as Children & Youth Adopt a Military Family for Christmas, donations to Fairborn Easter Egg Hunt, Post Children’s Christmas Party, Education & Scholarship donations, Community Service programs such as Monthly Bingo games at two Nursing Homes, Wii Bowling tournaments, and Others.
Senior center homemakers
FAIRBORN – The Fairborn Senior Center is accepting applications for part-time homemakers. Hours will vary. Applicants must pass a background check and drug screen, and they must also have a valid driver’s license and car insurance. Apply at 325 N. Third St.
Minimalists meet
YELLOW SPRINGS — Dayton Minimalists meet 7 p.m. every third Thursday of the month at the John Bryan Center, Yellow Springs.
