FAIRBORN — Capitol Steps, the political satire group, will give a free performance at the Wright State University Nutter Center.

Part of Wright State’s 2016-2017 Presidential Lecture Series, the concert starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.

Tickets are not required for entry, and all seats in the Nutter Center are general admission. Doors open at 7 p.m. The concert is sponsored by the University Activities Board.

Ethos, Wright State’s a cappella ensemble, will also perform.

The theme of this year’s Presidential Lecture Series is “Democracy, Politics and You.” The series also includes lectures by Margaret O’Mara, author of “Pivotal Tuesdays,” on Nov. 2; former CBS News anchor Dan Rather on Jan. 31; and Jonathan Capehart, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, on March 30.

Capitol Steps‘ concert is bipartisan and includes satirical songs about the U.S. election as well as other topical news stories.

The group first started performing in 1981 and has released more than 40 albums, primarily of song parodies. The troupe originally consisted of Senate staffers who performed around Washington, D.C., satirizing American politics. Today, Capitol Steps employs professional actors and singers as well as former Capitol Hill staffers.

Capitol Steps produces regular specials for National Public Radio, including the “Politics Takes a Holiday” radio specials, has appeared on NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS and tours around the United States.
