Tecumseh Land Trust 12th Annual Harvest Auction
SPRINGFIELD — The Tecumseh Land Trust is hosting its 12th Annual Harvest Auction, featuring items during a live auction such as plane tickets, time in a vacation home, dinner courses, seeds, plant removal services, movie tickets, cookware and more. A variety of items are being offered at a silent auction as well.
The silent auction takes place 6-7:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, while the live auction begins 8 p.m. at the Hollenbech Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center, 275 S. Limestone Street. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Tecumseh Land Trust at 937-767-9490 to charge by phone; tickets will also be available at the door. Simply Delicious will cater, Ben Coopers Sawgrass will perform live music and Tim Lile will serve as auctioneer.
Handbell Workship planned
FAIRBORN — A handbell workshop is being held for anyone 8 to 88 years old who has wanted to learn to ring “English” type handbells. The workshop will be held noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 100 East Main Street. Those attending the workshop will learn how to read handbell music, ring an English type handbell and special handbell technics. There are several handbell choirs in Greene County and are always in need of ringers, both young and old. There is no commitment to join any handbell choir, but to learn about handbells and how to ring the bells. Council to meet for regular session
FAIRBORN — The next regular council meeting will take place 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 within the council chambers at the Fairborn Government Center, 40 W. Hebble Ave. Regular council meetings always take place the first and third Mondays of each month at the same time and place, unless otherwise noted.
Citizens forum set
FAIRBORN — Fairborn Citizens Forums invite citizens and city officials to join together to discuss topics related to the city. They take place 7:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at varying locations. The following citizens forum takes place 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 and invites community members to the Fairborn Senior Center, 325 Third Street, to watch the first presidential debate.
National voter registration day
GREENE COUNTY – The League of Women Voters is partnering with the Dayton Metro Libraries and Greene County Libraries to help register voters for National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Residents who need to register to vote or who need to update their registrations due to address or name change are encouraged to attend. Absentee ballot applications will also be available.
Early voting begins Oct.12 and Election Day is Nov. 8th. The libraries will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Montgomery County, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Greene County.

Fairborn City School District Board of Education to meet
FAIRBORN — The Fairborn City School District Board of Education invites the public to its meetings, which take place 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month within the library at Fairborn High School, 900 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road. The next school board meeting will take place Thursday, Oct. 6.
Fifth Quarter invites Baker Middle School students to gather
FAIRBORN — “Fifth Quarter”, established in 2002, provides a safe place for Fairborn’s seventh and eighth grade students to gather and fellowship. During the Fairborn High School Skyhawks football season, Fifth Quarter is open after every home game from 9:15 –11:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 821, N. Central Ave. After football season is over, Fifth Quarter is open the first and third Friday night of each month from 7:15 to 9:30 p.m. Adult chaperones are on hand to welcome and assist the youth at every meeting. It aims to include activities for every attendee, such as a PlayStation 2, Wii and Xbox gaming systems, and features a new release movie weekly on a big screen television.
Refreshments are provided, and Fifth Quarter officials ask that students conduct and dress guidelines. For further information contact the church office at 937-878-5701.
Pre-retirement seminar for teachers
BEAVERCREEK — Greene County Retired Teachers Association is planning a free pre-retirement planning seminar 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Beavercreek Nazarene Church, 1850 N. Fairfield Road. The event is for all Ohio Public School teachers and administrators that are within two years or less of retirement.
Speaking will be representatives from State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, the Association Member Benefits Advisers, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and the Greene County Teachers Association.

American Legion Auxiliary invites community participation
FAIRBORN — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 526 General membership meetings are held 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month at Legion Post 526, 526 Legion Lane. All members are encouraged to attend. The executive committee meets the first Monday of the month at the same location.
The Unit also holds a Roast Beef Hot Shot Dinner 5-7:30 p.m. the fourth Friday of each month at the Post. The funds raised are used to support Auxiliary programs, such as Children & Youth Adopt a Military Family for Christmas, donations to Fairborn Easter Egg Hunt, Post Children’s Christmas Party, Education & Scholarship donations, Community Service programs such as Monthly Bingo games at two Nursing Homes, Wii Bowling tournaments, and Others.
Senior center homemakers
FAIRBORN – The Fairborn Senior Center is accepting applications for part-time homemakers. Hours will vary. Applicants must pass a background check and drug screen, and they must also have a valid driver’s license and car insurance. Apply at 325 N. Third St.
YELLOW SPRINGS — Dayton Minimalists meet 7 p.m. every third Thursday of the month at the John Bryan Center, Yellow Springs.
