YELLOW SPRINGS —WYSO FM is focusing on peace for its upcoming annual community concert.
The Yellow Springs radio station will partner with the 21st Century Peace Literacy Foundation commemorating the 15th anniversary of 9/11, honoring those who lost their lives and celebrating the work of “Peace Heroes” in the community.
WYSO has chosen various artists who are Peace Heroes — those who promote peace through their music — including Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem and the Central State University Chorus to be part of the show 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at RiverScape MetroPark in downtown Dayton. Students from Fairmont High School will also read short excerpts from writings about peace by Dayton Literary Peace Prize-winning authors.
“I was initially struck by Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem’s instrumental and harmonic excellence,” said WYSO Music Director Niki Dakota. “Only later did I become more familiar with the depth and soulfulness of their lyrics. The confluence is transformative. Expect a grand finale that combines everyone’s talents. The spirit of these artists’ combined work and musical mastery promises to make this year’s WYSO Community Concert our most stirring, to date.”
Prior to the concert, the 21st Century Peace Literacy Foundation is hosting a “Peace Heroes” Walk 1 p.m. at RiverScape, and all participants are invited to stay for WYSO’s Community Concert.
“WYSO is pleased to partner on this community-building event,” said WYSO General Manager Neenah Ellis. “Dayton’s peace makers are worth celebrating every year.”
The WYSO Community Concert marks the return of Vox Populi, an American Pale Ale created by Yellow Springs Brewery in partnership with WYSO. The beer, along with others from Yellow Springs Brewery will on sale at the event and food trucks Pa’s Pork and The Wicked ‘Wich of Dayton as well as Fronana, Ginniebug Creations and Dogs 4 Dogs will be vending on site.
This family-friendly concert is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
