XENIA — Young goat showman stepped into the ring Thursday and put their skills to the test.

Judge Blake Potter was pleasantly surprised at how well the children performed.

“I didn’t expect the little kids to know to keep eye contact and switch sides,” he said. “They did it really well and they answered the questions really well too.”

Top showman included Alaina Miller, Elaina Miller, Micah Allen, Alaina Morgan and Maggie Paris.

“I was looking for whether or not the kids maintained eye contact and if they switched the sides when I came around so I could look at the best side of the goat,” Potter said. “I was seeing overall how well they handled the animal and if they got the animal to do what they wanted it to.”

Potter has been showing goats for the last eight years, still showing today. In the future, he advises young showman to maintain eye contact, switch sides to allow the judge to keep a clear view of the goat and set the animal properly.
