Jesus’ understanding

“Everyone who heard him (Jesus) was amazed at his understanding and his answers.” (Luke 2:47)

Jesus was sharp! Even at a young age. Jesus was twelve years old when he began questioning and teaching the religious leaders in the Temple. Certainly young people have a curiosity about religious and spiritual matters, but none have known what they were talking about like Jesus.

This verse reminds us that Jesus was about His Father’s business from the beginning. Thus, He reminded Joseph and Mary that He could be found in His Father’s house. That is where He really felt at home.

Are we most comfortable in God’s House, the Church? We should be questioning, learning and teaching as we move along on our faith journey. If we desire to be like Jesus, which is what a disciples does, then we should learn from Him here, that His Church, the gathering of His people, is special and cherished.

We must love to gather with the people of God in worship. We must love to share the Good News of the Word of God through words and deeds.

Heavenly Father, what a joy to be part of the Universal Church of Your Son. Its fellowship is eternal. Its riches are precious. It is where You have chosen to reveal Yourself to us. Yes, we vary in Christian denominations and practices but we have common ground in our worship of You: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Thank You for calling us to be a part of that worship. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
