FAIRBORN — Pam Bates, active member for 41 years of the American Legion Auxiliary, received the National American Legion Auxiliary award for best overall department leadership program.

Her written report won at the regional level and then forwarded to the national organization for competition with other regions in the U.S. She has held many positions in the American Legion Auxiliary which led to her being a past department president, past district and past unit president. She has also held many National program positions.

She currently is the Department of Ohio Leadership chairman and is co-captain of the National Strategy Goodwill Team. Bates feels membership and leadership are important to this organization.

“Without members there is no organization and without leaders there is no one to work our many veterans’ programs or teach our members and the community about the importance of who we are, what we do and our traditions,” Bates wrote in a press release to the Herald.
