XENIA — A Xenia man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the rape of a child, two other sexual charges and an abduction charge Thursday. Emotions ran high as Robert Andrews, 29, was sentenced by Judge Michael Buckwalter in Greene County Common Pleas Court.

Prior to sentencing, Andrews apologized to both his family and to the family of the victim.

“I really, really cannot explain the amount of pain that I feel and the amount of remorse I have for bringing pain to my family,” Andrews said as his tearful family looked on. “I honestly never thought a case like this against me would be possible for any reason whatsoever. I never saw this being part of my future.”

The grandfather of the victim addressed Andrews during the sentencing hearing Thursday.

“We got to think of words and how to describe any of this,” he said. “Hurt. Distrust. Disgusted. Any of them words, but none of them can describe what you’ve done in our family. It’s tore this family apart.”

In addition to the rape and abduction charges, Andrews was sentenced for a gross sexual imposition charge and an illegal use of a minor in a nudity-oriented material or performance charge.

According to Xenia Police Division Captain Scott Anger, the charges resulted from “inappropriate sexual activity” with a victim under the age of 10 over about a two-year period from August 2013 to July 2015.

Andrews will be forced to register as a Tier III sexual offender and will have to register every 90 days for life after he is released from prison.

“There’s so much pain in this courtroom on both sides,” Judge Buckwalter said just before the end of the hearing. “I can only hope that with time perhaps that maybe all involved can learn ways to cope with your suffering.”
