XENIA — Greene County Consortium on Domestic and Sexual Violence presented awards on Wednesday to local law enforcement members.

Those honored were community members, dispatchers, road officers, and investigators, all having specifically served domestic violence victims and their children.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which was observed for the first time in 1987. The month is observed to mourn those who have died, to celebrate those who have survived, and to connect community partners to work to end domestic violence, Director of Victim Witness Division Teri L. LaJeunesse said in her opening remarks.

“Reporting an abusive instance to law enforcement is a critical first step of the response a victim encounters and greatly impacts their resolve to trust, and to remain engaged with the criminal justice system,” LaJeunesse said. “Today we proudly honor several members of our Greene County law enforcement community for their professional demeanor and compassion while responding to and assisting victims of domestic violence.”

Awardees were community member Rachael Wise, dispatchers Yalonda Weber (Beavercreek Police Department), Faith Lammert (Beavercreek Police Department), Jennine Mustard (Fairborn Police Department), Jillian Pollock (Greene Central Communications Center), road officers Sergeant Chad Lindsey (Beavercreek Police Department), Officer Cynthia Peffly (Beavercreek Police Department), Officer Robert Stouffer (Xenia Police Division), and an investigative officer, Detective Terry “Shaun” Pettit (Fairborn Police Department).

The Consortium accepts nominations every year for the three categories of dispatch, road officer and investigator.
