Dutch Lions blanked by Canadian team

WEST CARROLLTON — The Dayton Dutch Lions Futbol Club took on Kitchener-Waterloo United FC at DOC Stadium on a hot and muggy Friday evening.

K-W United found the goal first when Ken Krolicki ran down the right side and, given space, passed across the box to Sergio Camargo who placed the ball in the top of the net in the 14th minute, putting the Ontario, Canada-area team up by one.

The 33rdminute saw Sven Konig of K-W United put his team up by two. Moving down the left, Konig beat the Dayton defender, go found space and put the ball in the back of the net.

Dayton had a chance in the 36th minute when Anwuar Tuithof ran down the right and put the ball in the air finding the head of Nduka Kemjik, but K-W United keeper Dayne St Clair was there to pounce on it.

K-W United’s Konig wasted no time taking the ball down the center of the field. Dayton keeper Nathan Jones left the goal to stop the oncoming, Konig but was beaten. Konig placed the ball past the two waiting Dayton defenders.

Dayton had one more chance in the 40th minute, but the strike went wide, leaving the Lions trailing K-W United by three at the half.

While Dayton’s energy created some opportunities in the second half, they could not overcome the first half deficit and the Dayton Dutch Lions FC fell to K-W United FC 0-4.

The Dayton Dutch Lions (0-1-1) will welcome the Michigan Bucks FC (2-0-0) to DOC Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4. They meet their cross-town rivals the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC (1-0-1) for a second time at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9 at Mason Middle School. Dayton then heads to Michigan to play the Bucks at Ultimate Soccer Arena at 7:30 p.m.on Saturday, June 11.

SW Ohio Track Club program starts today

YELLOW SPRINGS — The Southwest Ohio Track Club will begin its Summer Track and Field Program on Tuesday May 31. This program is open to youth (7 years older) and older (including Masters). Practices are on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at Yellow Springs HS (5 p.m. and 6 p.m.) through July 21. The summer program is a certified USATF program with excellent coaching and training. Sponsors needed for Tour de Xenia

XENIA — Tour de Xenia 2016 is still looking for Sponsors and Prime (gift) sponsors. The annual competitive bicycling event, now in its second year, is looking for a sponsor for the Men’s Category 5 race and the Kids Bike Rodeo. Greene Trails Cycling Classic, July 14-17

XENIA — The 2016 Greene Trails Cycling Classic will take place July 14-17 with the Greene County Fairgrounds Recreation Center serving as home base for the hundreds of cyclists expected to attend from all over the region.

Excursions will be planned for each day of the event.

Registration includes Fairgrounds Recreation Center campsite, Support and Gear (SAG), fully-supported rest stops, purchase pick-up, breakfast daily and all evening entertainment including meal on Thursday and Saturday night (if registered for Thursday and Saturday).

Adults Children (ages 5-12)

4-Day: $150 ($75)

3-Day: $125 ($65)

2-Day: $100 ($55)

1-Day $80 ($50)

Non-riders: $75 ($50)

Greene County residents: $25 per day ($10 per day) $10/day/entertainment

Group Rate: $135 per person/four days*

*Discount of $10 per person/per day with group rate —- five or more from the same bicycle club with registration mailed together.

Junior Golf Camp, June 20-23

XENIA — WGC Golf Course in Xenia will host its Miami Valley Junior Golf Association 30th Annual Junior Golf Camp, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., June 20-23. for boys and girls ages 8-17. Campers will receive daily instruction on stroke technique, golf etiquette, the rules of golf as well as time on the practice tee and putting greens to work on stroke technique. All golfers will also play daily on the WGC Golf Course. Long time Golf Camp Director and former Stebbins H.S. golf coach Jim Beaver has a fine staff this year including PGA Pros Garay Goecke and Travis Mumma, Beavercreek H.S. varsity boys and girls coaches Chris Nartker and Angela Crum, Stebbins boys golf coaches Rick Pagniano and Shane Williams, Carroll assistant girls golf coach Alex Goecke and former Trevecca Nazarene University All-American Golfer Betsy Beaver, who is now the varsity girls golf coach at Westerville North High School.

Junior Golf League starts June 29

XENIA — WGC Golf Course will also have its Wednesday Junior Golf League starting at 10:45 a.m. June 29. This nine-hole league will continue each Wednesday through July. Golfers with some playing experience are welcome to compete. The league was started back in 1975 by Jim Beaver and Garay Goecke who will supervise play each week. Information about the league can also be found at www.wgcgolfcourse.com.
