Fucci named Horizon League Batter of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS — Wright State senior outfielder Ryan Fucci has been selected as the Horizon League Batter of the Week for the week ending May 22, it was announced Monday by the league office.

Fucci (Lexington, Ky. Tates Creek) hit .375 (6 for 16) with two home runs and eight RBI last week as the Raiders won three of four games to close out the regular season. In a 14-4 win over Dayton at Nischwitz Stadium on May 17, he was two for four with a double, RBI and run scored.

WSU then posted a 4-3, 13-inning win at Illinois-Chicago on May 19 as Fucci was again two for four with a double and a stolen base. He then drove in Wright State’s lone run with a sacrifice fly on May 20.

In the series finale with the Flames on May 21, Fucci smacked a pair of opposite field three-run home runs, one in the first inning and another in the seventh, in driving in six runs as the Raiders won 12-5.

In 13 games so far in May, Fucci is hitting .438 (21 for 48) with five home runs, 21 RBI, 14 runs scored, four doubles and five stolen bases. During that stretch, he also has an .833 slugging percentage and a .508 on-base percentage.

Overall, Fucci is hitting .325 with a team-best 11 home runs, 58 RBI and 25 stolen bases. He is first in the Horizon League in home runs, RBI and stolen bases, second in total bases (113), third in slugging percentage (.541), seventh in hits (68), runs scored (45) and on-base percentage (.414) and eighth in batting average.

Wright State (41-15, 23-6 Horizon) will be the no. 1 seed and host of this week’s Horizon League Tournament, which begins on Wednesday with two games. The Raiders will face the lower seeded winner of Wednesday’s games, which will be either no. 4 seed UIC, no. 5 seed Oakland or no. 6 seed Northern Kentucky, at 11 a.m. Thursday.

SW Ohio Track Club program starts May 31

YELLOW SPRINGS — The Southwest Ohio Track Club will begin its Summer Track and Field Program on Tuesday May 31. This program is open to youth (7 years older) and older (including Masters). Practices are on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at Yellow Springs HS (5 p.m. and 6 p.m.) through July 21. The summer program is a certified USATF program with excellent coaching and training. WRESTLING

Fairborn hosting wrestling camp

FAIRBORN — Fairborn High School will host a Champions wrestling camp June 13-16 in the high school gymnasium. The camp will feature 2016 Olympian, NCAA champion and 2015 World Champion Kyle Snyder, four-time NCAA All-American and 2016 NCAA champ Nahshon Garrett, 2016 NCAA All-American and 2015 NCAA champ Nathan Tomasello, two-time NCAA All-American and four-time OHSAA state champ Bo Jordan, and 2016 NCAA wrestling qualifier Jake Ryan.

Sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13, 14 and 16, and from 3-8 p.m. June 15. Cost is $160 through May 20, $185 thereafter. Deadline to register is June 10. Coaches with five or more wrestlers registered can attend free and will have the opportunity to take part in the camp.

Play It Forward Golf Outing, June 18

XENIA — The Annual Play It Forward golf outing, hosted by the Xenia High School Class of 1973, is scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Sebastian Hills Golf Club on Knollhaven Road in Xenia. The outing will include a light breakfast, a full picnic-style lunch and beverages, in addition to prizes and raffles. The event is open to the public with an early registration discount applied until June 1.

The goal of the fundraiser and scholarship award is to give back to current XHS graduates in need. The XHS Class of ’73 will award its third $4,000 scholarship to a deserving 2016 XHS graduate at the Awards Assembly in May. Scholarship monies are acquired from hole sponsorships ($100), title sponsors (ranging from $250 – $1000), monetary/gift donations and, of course, golfers.

Greene Trails Cycling Classic, July 14-17

XENIA — The 2016 Greene Trails Cycling Classic will take place July 14-17 with the Greene County Fairgrounds Recreation Center serving as home base for the hundreds of cyclists expected to attend from all over the region.

Excursions will be planned for each day of the event.

Registration includes Fairgrounds Recreation Center campsite, Support and Gear (SAG), fully-supported rest stops, purchase pick-up, breakfast daily and all evening entertainment including meal on Thursday and Saturday night (if registered for Thursday and Saturday).
