Rams win Blue Lion Shootout
The Greeneview Middle School fifth-grade boys basketball team closed out its season this past weekend beating North Adams, 29-16, in the championship game this past Sunday. North Adams beat Greenview by one point the previous day without Rams starting point guard Myles Witt. The team effort made early work of Miami Trace, Madison Plains and Greenfield to get to the finals with a complete lineup. Greenview had to beat a scrappy Washington Courthouse team in the semifinals, but handily did so by controlling the boards and playing gritty defense.

Xenia taking Hall of Fame nominations
XENIA — Nominations for Class of 2016 inductees into the Xenia Athletic Hall of Fame are now being accepted.
A nomination form can be obtained by going to the Xenia Community Schools official website, then to the Athletics link, and then to the Athletic Hall of Fame link. An individual, a team, a coach, and/or a community contributor can be nominated. These nominations can be for those athletes, teams, coaches, and community contributors who were associated with Xenia Central, Xenia High School, Xenia East, and/or Spring Valley. Nominations will be considered from all eras. The deadline to submit nomination forms is April 6, 2016.

Demmings named to Third Team
Wright State senior guard Kim Demmings of the Wright State women’s basketball team was selected to the Third Team as College Sports Madness announced its High-Major teams on Thursday.
Demmings (Richmond, Ind.) leads the Horizon League in scoring at 20.1 points per game and is fourth in threes made per game at 2.5, 10th in steals per game at 1.5 and 15th in rebounds per game at 5.9. She scored in double figures in 28 of 31 games this season, with her 35 at Illinois-Chicago on February 6, ranking as the top scoring performance in the league for the season. Demmings tallied 20 or more points 17 times and 30 or more on three occasions.
This is the second time that Demmings has been named to a High-Major team by College Sports Madness as she was selected to the Fourth Team in 2014. College Sports Madness High-Major conferences are the Atlantic 10, Colonial, Conference USA, Horizon, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and West Coast.
Wright State (22-9, 12-6 Horizon) opened Horizon League Tournament play on Thursday, March 10, as the no. 3 seed Raiders faced no. 10 seed UIC in first-round action at the Kress Events Center in Green Bay. The final is set for 1 p.m. (Eastern) on Sunday, March 13, with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
BASEBALL CAMP
Beavercreek baseball clinic March 12
BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School varsity baseball team will hold its sixth annual youth baseball clinic on Saturday, March 12. The clinic is for youth baseball players ages 8-14 and will be held in the main and auxiliary gyms at Beavercreek High School.
The morning session is for players ages 8-10 and costs $30. It begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 11 a.m. The afternoon session is for ages 11-14. The full afternoon session is from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a pitching-only segment from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The fee for older players is $40.
Registration and fees will be processed on the day of the clinic. A camp t-shirt will be provided to all participants. Members of the team and the coaching staff will conduct the clinic. All proceeds from the clinic will go to the Beavercreek varsity baseball team.
Participants should bring their gloves, bats and helmets. Please note that if weather permits, portions of the clinic could be conducted outside. Participants should also bring cleats and suitable clothing.

Spring Has Sprung 5K April 2
XENIA — Registration is now open for Greene County Public Health’s Seventh Annual Spring Has Sprung Healthy Families 5K Run-Walk Saturday, April 2 at the Xenia YMCA located at 135 E. Church St.
This event supports the efforts of the health district to provide and promote healthier lifestyle choices in Greene County, and encourages healthy, active lifestyles in Greene County. It is designed to bring families of all fitness levels together for a fun event, even for those who have never participated in a 5K before.
Registration and check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Xenia YMCA with the pet- and stroller-friendly run-walk beginning at 9 a.m. The course features a flat terrain in and around the Xenia area beginning and ending at the Xenia YMCA. Afterwards, healthy refreshments will be provided and participants can visit the various sponsors and vendors in the gymnasium.
The cost is $15 per person by March 25, which includes an event T-shirt. After March 25, the cost is $20 per person – T-shirt not guaranteed. Teams of 10 or more are eligible to receive a discount. Medals will be awarded to the top three male/female in each age category and a grand prize will be awarded for the top male/female overall.
Also on this day, the YMCA is hosting Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids. This free community event is open to all kids and families and will be filled with fun, active play and educational opportunities. Healthy Kids Day will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Charger 300 Club event supports Edison State Athletes
PIQUA — The Edison State Community College Foundation and Athletics Department are partnering to host the seventh annual Charger 300 Club event at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, in the Robinson Theater at the Piqua Campus. The event is held to help raise funds for the College’s athletic programs.
A reverse raffle will highlight the evening’s events, with one lucky winner walking away with a $10,000 prize. Other cash drawings will be held throughout the night and ticket holders are not required to be present to win.
Tickets are $100 per couple and include all-you-can-eat buffet, beverages, entertainment, and a chance to win. A silent auction will also be held featuring items such as NFL tickets, Dayton Dragon tickets, gift cards, and more.
Funds raised by the event assist Edison State in providing the best experience possible for student-athletes and have previously assisted the teams in post-season travel, uniform expenses, and equipment and facility upgrades.
Edison State’s baseball, basketball, and volleyball teams compete in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and are Division II members of the National Junior College Athletic Association. Within the last year, Edison State has also made the club sports of cross country and women’s soccer available to students.
