ATLANTA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has named Central State University sophomore Michaela Powell to the All-Conference Volleyball Second Team.

“I am proud and humbled to be selected to the All-SIAC Team,” Powell said. “It is gratifying to see my hard work being recognized by the conference.”

Transferring to Central State, Powell was CSU ‘s best offensive player. Powell led the team with 284 kills and 326 total points. She was second on the team in blocks (29) and digs (241). Powell also recorded 23 service aces on the season.

“Michaela is a leader. Her drive and discipline are among her biggest strengths that propelled her to have a successful season,” CSU head coach Danielle Benson-Robinson said, “We expect Michaela and the entire team to take tremendous strides as we move forward into next season.”

Powell is the first Central State volleyball player to earn All-SIAC recognition. The Lady Marauders showed tremendous improvement in coach Benson-Robinson’s first season narrowly missing out on qualifying for postseason play.

Powell discussed her mindset for next season.

“I want to be a more consistent player and help our team earn a spot in the SIAC tournament next year,” Powell said. “Our goal is to elevate the program to a higher level.”

The All-SIAC Team is selected based on voting from the conference’s coaches and sports information directors.
