Michalski qualifies for NCAA

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University’s Daniel Michalski has been chosen as an individual qualifier for the NCAA Division II Men’s Cross Country Championship.

The event will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Ind.

Michalski, a senior from Xenia, earned the nod after placing ninth in the Midwest Regional on Nov. 4 at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in 31:39.1. CU finished eighth as a team. He is one of four individual qualifiers from the Midwest Region which is also sending five teams – three automatic qualifiers and two at-large selections. This will be the fourth time the Yellow Jackets have been represented at the NCAA Championship.

Michalski is a four-time NCAA All-American on the track and is the reigning steeplechase national champion.

Poletta honored by league

FAIRBORN — Dominic Poletta, a sophomore for the Wright State swimming team, has been named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week, conference officials announced Nov. 7.

The Green, Ohio native won and set a new WSU pool record in the 50 free with a time of 20.66 and won the 100 free with a time of 45.81 as the Raiders defeated Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), 109-96. The Raiders will be back in action next weekend at the IUPUI Invitational.

Bucs in Flyin’ to the Hoop

DAYTON — Xenia High will be among the area and national teams participating in the annual Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational basketball showcase event.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to play Olentangy Liberty at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at James S. Trent Arena, in Kettering.
