Knights nip Cedarville

CEDARVILLE — Greenon defeated Cedarville in five sets, Aug. 29, in Ohio Heritage Conference girls high school volleyball action. The Knights rallied to a 25-21, 24-26, 24-26, 25-17, 15-11 win. Cedarville falls to 3-2 overall, and 1-2 in the OHC. Sara Beste recorded 16 kills, 18 defensive digs and had a service ace, Abigail Sheridan had 11 kills, four aces and three digs, and Kalley Schulz doled out 36 assists, had two kills, three service aces, 10 digs and recorded three blocks.

The Indians take on London Madison Plains in their next OHC matchup on Aug. 31.

Beavers stay undefeated

BEAVERCREEK —Beavercreek remained undefeated with a 2-0-1 record after an Aug. 29 win, 4-1, over visiting Miamisburg. Ryan Bernt had an unassisted goal, while Evan Williams, Ryan Wightman and Daniel Donohue each scored of respective assists from Beaver teammates Jonah Ackerson, Caleb Russell and Ackerson again.

Ben Sundermann scored the lone Vikings goal on a penalty kick. Miamisburg is now 1-2-0.

Golden Eagles defeat Brookville

BELLBROOK — Sophomore Bailey Sedlak scored three goals for a girls high school soccer hat trick, senior Audrey Spirk had a goal and an assist, and junior Cassi Hennen, sophomore Lydia Travis and senior Cassidy Bereda each pitched in with an assist in Bellbrook’s 4-0 win Aug. 29 over Brookville in Southwestern Buckeye League action.

In junior varsity action, Bellbrook defeated Brookville by a 3-0 score.

Skyhawks defeat West Carrollton

WEST CARROLLTON — Fairborn sank the West Carrollton Pirates 25-22, 25-12, 25-17 Aug. 29 in a Greater Western Ohio Conference American South division matchup. Leading the way was senior Kayleigh Finlayson with nine kills, 11 digs and a 2.82 passing percentage. Senior Zuza Livosky had seven aces and nine assists, junior Jessica Black had a dig, a block and four kills, and sophomore Darby Ballard had four kills.

Rams fall to Central Catholic

JAMESTOWN — Greeneview lost 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20 in an Ohio Heritage Conference matchup Aug. 29 at home against Springfield Central Catholic.

Maddie Hines led the Rams with eight kills. Bryce Ratliff had 15 assists and Maddie Johnson recorded 16 digs.

In junior varsity action, Greeneview defeated SCC by scores of 25-22, 25-21. The Rams’ next match is Thursday Aug. 31 at South Charleston Southeastern.

Indians second at Hogue Memorial

BELLEFONTAINE — Cedarville junior Adam Wood shot a 78 and senior Noah Myers shot 79 to lead the Indians to a second-place finish Tuesday Aug 29 in the Russ Hogue Memorial at Cherokee Hills Golf Course. Cedarville finished at 349 behind tournament champion Springfield Shawnee at 336 on the par-71 course.

The Braves were led by medalist Grant Engle’s 68.Wood was tied for second overall and Myers was fourth. Caleb Smith, a junior, added a 95 and Logan Brennaman, a sophomore, shot 97 for the Indians.

Other team scores: Bellefontaine Ben Logan 352, Lima Central Catholic 353, Springfield Northwestern 366, Riverside 376, and Lewistown Indian Lake 421.

Indians fall to Mechanicsburg

MECHANICSBURG — Caleb Westfall recorded a 4-under 32 to claim medalist honors as host Mechanicsburg High claimed a 175-182 win over Cedarville in Ohio Heritage Conference boys varsity golf action Aug. 28 at Indian Springs golf course.

Noah Myers led Cedarville with a second-place score of 38. Other top Cedarville scores were turned in by: Adam Wood (41); and Jadon Horsley (48). Cedarville’s record is now 3-4 in OHC play.

OHC Monday results

GREENE COUNTY — In scores recorded for Monday, Aug. 28 by the Ohio Heritage Conference, Greeneview’s girls volleyball team defeated Tipp City Bethel three sets to none. In boys golf, Greeneview defeated Mechanicsburg, 180-202, and West Liberty-Salem defeated Cedarville by one stroke, 186-187. In girls golf, Greeneview defeated Mechanicsburg by a 223-233 team total. And in girls tennis, the Greeneview Rams swept Greenon by a 5-0 score.

Greeneview MS splits with Cedarville

CEDARVILLE — The Greeneview Middle School seventh grade volleyball team beat Cedarville in two sets, 25-18, 25-11 on Aug. 28 at Cedarville Middle School. Sadie Trisel 21 points, Karlie Harlow had eight and Madelyn Muse recorded six.

The Greeneview Middle School eighth grade squad lost to Cedarville in three sets, 25-20, 21-25, 19-25. Sarah Trisel scored 15 points and McKenna Reno 7.

Beavers sweep Fairfield

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek defeated Fairfield in non-league action Monday night Aug. 28 in three games. 25-18, 25-23, 25-15.

Hannah Lefevers had 26 assists, one block, one kill and nine digs. Sarah Laughman 11 kills and two blocks. Lauren Goenaga-Lask six kills and 10 digs. Sara Skaggs three kills. Kelly Geonaga-Lask had five kills, three service aces, a block and nine digs.

Bellbrook seeks JV boys hoops coach

BELLBROOK — Bellbrook High School (SW District – Div.II) is seeking a junior varsity boys high school basketball coach. Previous coaching experience is preferred, but not required. BHS Hall of fame ceremony

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee will host its formal induction ceremony of the 18th and 19th Class of 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame members 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8. The BHS Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 2000 and now consists of 163 members.

The program activities start at 4:45 p.m. in the BHS Common Area. Four of the inductees will be introduced at Halftime of the Beavercreek vs. Fairborn Football game. The new inductees are as follows: Mike Daubenmire BHS class of 1960, Ray Loper BHS Class of 1964, Judy Peele; Assistant Athletic Director, Steve Pittman BHS Class of 1985, Dave Siegfried Class of 1954 and Ashley Upton BHS Class of 2005; Kelly Blumenschein Coughlin BHS Class of 2007, Dr. Ron Roddy BHS Class of 1979, Aili Volmer Gallardo BHS Class of 1995 and Rick Woolf BHS Baseball Coach 1989 – 2009.

National columnist to headline tip-off

FAIRBORN — Sports national college basketball columnist Pat Forde will headline the Third Annual Raider Tip-Off Premiere Thursday, Oct. 12. Previous keynote speakers for the first two Premieres were CBS commentator Clark Kellogg and former ESPN and current Fox Sports analyst Chris Broussard. The Premiere acts as the launch to the 2017-18 basketball season and includes a VIP reception, silent auction, dinner, introductions of the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the guest speaker. The Athletic Department will release more information on tickets in the coming days.

Fall basketball league at Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting its 18th annual girls basketball fall league. The games will be played on Sunday afternoons Sept. 10 through Oct. 22. All teams will play seven games on five Sundays with no games Sept. 17-24.

The league will have 12 high school teams ninth through 12th grade. There will be 8-10 girls per team, with only two players from each school on the same team. HALO 5K Fun Run/Walk set

XENIA — The inaugural Helping Animals Lost & Orphaned (HALO) 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at Caesar Creek Vineyards LLC, 962 Long Road. Check-in and same-day registration will take place 8:30 a.m.
