CEDARVILLE — The President’s Cup stays once again at Cedarville University.
Cedarville has been awarded the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Presidents’ Cup for the fourth consecutive year.
The Presidents’ Cup is annually awarded to the college that has the highest percentage score for sports sponsored within the conference.
The Yellow Jackets were in the all-sports competition against 2016-‘17 members Alderson Broaddus, Davis & Elkins, Kentucky Wesleyan, Malone, Ohio Valley, Trevecca, and Ursuline.
CU came away with six conference championships beginning with three in the fall — men’s cross country, women’s cross country, and women’s volleyball.
The Jackets claimed the women’s indoor track & field trophy before sweeping the men’s and women’s outdoor track & field titles.
Runner-up honors for Cedarville came in men’s soccer and men’s indoor track & field.
The Yellow Jackets finished with 87 total points while runner-up Malone was a close second with 82. Davis & Elkins took third place with 74 points.
Other individual honors awarded to Cedarville in 2016-‘17 included numerous coach of the year awards to Jeff Bolender (women’s cross country, track and field), Paul Orchard (men’s cross country), Wes Rowe (softball) and Doug Walters (volleyball). Great Midwest Player of the Year plaques were presented to Olivia Esbenshade (cross country/indoor track and field), Gabby Olson (volleyball), Hanna Harris (women’s soccer), Jordan Reese (golf), Carsyn Koch (outdoor track and field), Brianne O’Dell (softball) and Danielle Wolgamot (softball). G-MAC Freshman of the Year honors went to Janelle English (tennis).
The competition in 2017-‘18 expects to be tougher with the addition of new members Findlay, Hillsdale, Lake Erie, Ohio Dominican, and Walsh. And Tiffin will join the G-MAC for the 2018-‘19 campaign.
