CSU All-Academic athletes named

WILBERFORCE — A total of 25 Central State student-athletes have been honored as Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner’s All-Academic selections for maintaining at least a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average throughout the 2016-17 academic year.

Three CSU student-athletes were placed on the SIAC All-Academic Team in their respective sport. Iesha Lockhart was an All-Academic selection in both Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Track & Field, Danielle Cassell-Jackson was named in Women’s Volleyball, and Isaiah Smith was an All-SIAC Academic selection in football. Student-athletes with a 3.2 or higher were considered for SIAC All-Academic Team honors.

“We are excited to recognize and congratulate the academic achievements of our student-athletes,” said SIAC Commissioner Gregory Moore. “The outstanding athletic and academic standard of excellence maintained by these young women and men is a testament to both their work ethic and dedication. I’d also like to recognize the many administrators, academic support staff, coaches, and parents throughout the SIAC for their contributions to the academic success of these student-athletes.”

Central State’s SIAC Commissioner’s All-Academic selections were made up of seven football players, four members of the women’s cross country team, four men’s cross country participants, two volleyball players, five members of the men’s basketball team, three women’s basketball players, four student-athletes on the men’s track & field team and four individuals from the women’s track & field team.

The Marauders had a pair of three-sport selections: Regine Harris received All-Academic honors in women’s volleyball, women’s cross country, and women’ track & field, while Robert Konteh was named to SIAC All-Academic teams in men’s basketball, men’s cross county, and men’s track & field.

Central State tied with Claflin University (Orangeburg, S.C.) for the most men’s basketball players selected to the SIAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team.

The list of Central State student-athletes selected to the SIAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team is as follows: Football (7) — Isaiah Smith,* Justin Mosley, Gary Suggs, Kolaiah Harvey, Aliou Diouf, Roberto Pierre, and Moses Vines; Men’s Cross Country (4) — Samuel Grate, Devin Weems, Robert Konteh, and Olakunle Gaiusbayode; Women’s Cross Country (4) — Iesha Lockhart,* Regine Harris, Destinee Russell, and Justice Robinson; Volleyball (2) — Danielle Cassell-Jackson* and Harris; Men’s Basketball (5) — Jalen Newsome, Konteh, Chris Cook, Tom Johnson, and Sterling Gilmore; Women’s Basketball (3) — Ghameerah McCullers, Sierra Harley, and Russell; Men’s Track & Field (4) — Grate, Weems, Konteh and Gaiusbayode; Women’s Track & Field (4) — Lockhart,* Harris, Russell and Robinson. *Denotes SIAC All-Academic Selection
