WILBERFORCE — The search for the next volleyball coach at Central State University is over, as the school’s athletic department announced it has hired Danielle Benson-Robinson to fill the position.

“The Marauder athletic department is proud to welcome Danielle Benson-Robinson,” CSU Vice President of Athletics and Institutional Advancement Jahan Culbreath said. “Coach Benson-Robinson brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the volleyball program. Her focus on student welfare, discipline, coaching philosophy and values makes her the perfect fit to lead our volleyball team.”

Benson-Robinson most recently served as the head coach of Columbus International High School. She also directed the 2 Girls Volleyball Club based in Columbus. Benson-Robinson’s previous positions also include serving as the regional head coach of the Eastside Volleyball Club and Buckeye Volleyball Club, head coach of Providence Academy for Student Success and assistant coach at Walnut Ridge High School.

“Throughout my coaching career, I have taken great pride in sharing my passion and knowledge for the game while expanding diversity in the sport. I look forward to creating and cultivating a positive and highly competitive culture within the volleyball program at Central State University,” Benson-Robinson said.

Benson-Robinson started her collegiate playing career at Columbus State Community College where she captained the Lady Cougars to a final ranking of No. 5 in the 2001 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Poll. After a sensational junior college career, Benson-Robinson transferred to Kentucky State University. Serving as captain and a defensive specialist, she helped lead KSU to back-to-back Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association East Division championships.

Benson-Robinson earned her associate’s degree in business from Columbus State in 2002 and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kentucky State in 2005. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration at Wayne State University.

Taking over a CSU volleyball program that has struggled in recent years, Benson-Robinson expressed enthusiasm and optimism entering her first season as a head coach on the collegiate level.

“I have always wanted to coach volleyball at an HBCU. As a former student-athlete and graduate of Kentucky State University, I know the value of HBCU’s and the role our institutions play in the development of future leaders,” Benson-Robinson said. “In my previous roles on the club and high school level, we built programs from the ground up and we went on to be ranked among the top 10 in the state of Ohio. With hard work, enthusiasm and unity, we can create a winning culture at Central State while preparing our ladies for their future endeavors after graduation.”

Benson-Robinson will make her Central State coaching debut on Sept. 9 when the Lady Marauders travel to play Ohio Christian University at the University of Cincinnati – Clermont tournament in Batavia.
