CEDARVILLE — NCAA Division II men’s steeplechase champion Daniel Michalski will participate at the 15th Annual Music City Distance Carnival in Nashville this weekend.

The Xenia native, who just completed his junior season at Cedarville University, is scheduled to compete in the 3K steeplechase at 9:25 p.m. on Saturday June 10.

Michalski is one of 20 athletes entered in the race and is ranked ninth with his school-record 8:44.49. That’s the mark he posted in Bradenton, Fla. on May 26 to win the NCAA Division II title.

Michalski will be attempting to qualify for the USATF Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif. on June 22-25. The steeplechase qualifying standard for the meet is 8:40.0.

Cedarville tops NCCAA in scholar T&F athletes: A total of 35 Yellow Jacket track & field performers are National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Scholar-Athletes for the 2017 outdoor season.

The list includes juniors and seniors, who maintain a minimum 3.40 cumulative grade point average.

The group features 23 members of the Lady Jacket track & field team as well as 12 members of the CU men’s track & field squad.

On the women’s side, there are 107 student-athletes from across the nation to receive the distinction and Cedarville University is No. 1 among all schools.

A total of 50 men are on the list with CU, again, leading the way.
