OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Belmont University men’s basketball senior Evan Bradds (Jamestown, Ohio) has been selected as a candidate for the 2016-17 Senior CLASS Award in college basketball.

Bradds, a 2016 Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America selection and CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree, stands as one of the most decorated players in Belmont history.

The 6-foot-7 forward was named 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and All-District by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) after leading the nation in field goal percentage (.714) for a second straight season.

In fact, through 111 career games, Bradds’ field goal percentage (.675; 593-of-878) is top 3 in NCAA Division I men’s basketball since the statistical category was first tracked in 1948.

He is ranked as the third-most efficient offensive player (behind only Alex Peters of Valparaiso and Devin Cannady of Princeton) returning to college basketball by noted statistician Ken Pomeroy.

Bradds was named to the Julius Erving, Lute Olson and Lou Henson Award Watch Lists leading into the season.

He is the OVC active leader in career points (1,549) and rebounds (775).

Off the court, Bradds took part in a sports evangelism mission trip to Pine Ridge, S.D., where team members worked on infrastructure improvement projects and team-building activities on a Native American reservation. Bradds regularly volunteers at the Nashville Rescue Mission, serves as a reading mentor for students at a Nashville area elementary school and volunteers at the Nashville Dream Center—a place dedicated to providing resources, training and encouragement to those rebuilding their lives.

This past summer, Bradds toured New Zealand as part of Athletes in Action. In addition to participating in practices and games with teammates from other NCAA member institutions, Bradds shared his personal faith story with peers and students in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin.

Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four C’s: community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Men’s Final Four.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Bradds is the seventh Belmont men’s basketball player to be honored as part of the Senior CLASS program, joining Justin Hare, Andy Wicke, Mick Hedgepeth, J.J. Mann, Reece Chamberlain and Craig Bradshaw.
