Nine CSU players selected to SIAC Preseason All-Conference team
ATLANTA — Nine Central State football players have received preseason honors as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (S-I-A-C) released its annual Football Preseason All-Conference Team on Monday.
Central State tied with Tuskegee and Albany State for the most players selected to the conference’s first or second team.
Highlighting the selections for CSU were tight end Zach Thomas and defensive lineman Artrell McMillan, as both were tabbed to the first Team. Thomas, a senior from Columbus, finished with 27 receptions for 427 yards and two touchdowns last season on his way to making the SIAC All-Conference team. This is the third time Thomas has earned the preseason honor.
McMillan, a junior from Nashville, Tenn., led the SIAC in sacks last season with 10.5 and was part of a Marauder front four that totaled a conference best 37.5 sacks. After a breakout season in 2014, McMillan is ready to continue his dominance in 2015.
Wide receiver Christopher Murray, running back Isaiah Grooms, and offensive lineman Devin Radcliffe earned Offensive Second Team honors.
Defensive lineman Tayvin Ziegler, linebacker Gervell Morgan, defensive back Dashad Tucker and safety Okoye Bozeman were selected to the Defensive Second Team.
The nine selections are the most Central State has had since joining the SIAC in 2013. CSU kicks off the season on Sept. 5 in Philippi, W.Va. against Alderson Broaddus.

Dragons hosting family movie night
DAYTON — The Dayton Dragons are hosting Donatos Pizza Family Movie Night with a showing of “The Lego Movie” (rated PG) on the brand new 2,000-square-foot HD video board at Fifth Third Field. The gates for the event open at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at 8 p.m Saturday, August 22. Families are invited to bring a blanket and find a spot on the stadium’s outfield grass and enjoy a night of fun at the ballpark.
Groups are advised to arrive early not only to secure a great spot, but also to enjoy the festivities before the movie begins. Kids will get to see Dragons mascots Heater and Gem, enjoy plenty of inflatable games, see some great skits from the Green Team and eat some ballpark food.
To get tickets to the event, all fans have to do is order any item from a Dayton-area Donatos location to get an order form that also includes easy online instructions to request up to five tickets to Family Movie Night.
Famous Chicken comes to Fifth Third Field, Thursday
DAYTON — The Godfather of modern mascots, the Famous Chicken, brought to you by The Dublin Pub, will make his much anticipated return to Fifth Third Field at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 23 when the Dragons host the West Michigan Whitecaps.
The Famous Chicken has reached icon status as a sports personality throughout the nation. In his element as an outrageous comic actor, he’s as unique and gifted humorist as a stage has ever seen. In his hey-day he would make 200 appearances per year at different sporting events. He has appeared in movies, TV shows, and has his own merchandise.
Now is the time to buy tickets to see him on July 23, as this could be the last time he comes around. The Famous Chicken, played by the same man for more than 40 years, returns to Fifth Third Field for the first time since 2009.
The Famous Chicken’s history dates back to 1974 when then college student-Ted Giannoulas took a job with San Diego KGB radio for $2 an hour. Giannoulas began handing out Easter eggs at the local zoo and it eventually ballooned into a volunteer gig with the San Diego Padres. That job paved the way to being recognized as the first professional sports mascot and a pioneer of the sports marketing industry.

Register for Soccer Camp
BEAVERCREEK — The City of Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture Department and Skyhawks Sports Academy are taking registration for Soccer Camp (for kids ages 4-12). Campers will learn the fundamentals of soccer and gain the technical skills and sport knowledge required for that next step into soccer.
Camp is schedule for August 3-7, 2015 at Rotary Park, 2260 Dayton Xenia Road.
(Ages 4-5) 12:30-1:15 pm; fee is $55 for resident; $65 non-resident.
(Ages 6-12) 9 am – noon; fee is $105 for resident; $120 non resident.

Redlegs Run set for Aug. 8
CINCINNATI – Sign up now for the 14th annual Coldwell Banker West Shell Redlegs Run on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015 at Great American Ball Park.
Runners, walkers and families have many options to participate:
• 5K presented by Beacon Orthopaedics: Chip-timed 3.1-mile course starts on Mehring Way behind Great American Ball Park, winds along the riverfront and finishes inside the ballpark near home plate.
• 10K presented by Trophy Awards: Chip-timed 6.2-mile course starts on Mehring Way, winds along the riverfront, crosses over the Ohio River on the Taylor Southgate Bridge into Newport and back across the Purple People Bridge and finishes inside the ballpark near home plate.
• One Mile Family Run/Walk presented by UnitedHealthcare: One mile course starts on Mehring Way and finishes inside the ballpark near home plate.
• Gapper’s Kids Fun Run presented by UnitedHealthcare: Kids run around the warning track of the ballpark.
All events are for walkers and runners of all ages, with the exception of the Gapper’s Kids Fun Run, which is limited to kids ages 10 and under.
All participants will receive a finisher medal, race t-shirt (technical shirt for 10K participants), post-race party in the Kroger Fan Zone and one View Level ticket voucher for the Reds vs. Kansas City Royals game on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 7:10 pm.
