FAIRBORN — Senior defender Jake Stovall and sophomore midfielder Jackson Dietrich of the Wright State men’s soccer team have been selected Third Team All-Great Lakes Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Stovall (Centerville), a First Team All-Horizon League honoree, was an important part of the Wright State defense this season that allowed just 20 goals overall for a 0.96 goals against average. The defense was even more impressive in league play, giving up only two goals for a 0.21 goals against average. Named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 10, Stovall also chipped in three assists offensively, two coming against Illinois Chicago and one versus Cleveland State.

“This honor for Jake is a great capstone to what has been a special career,” said WSU head coach Bryan Davis. “He will go down as one of the best captains in Wright State history and one of the best I’ve ever seen in all of my years as a player or coach.”

Dietrich (Las Vegas Foothill), a Second Team All-League selection in 2016 after being named as last year’s Horizon League Freshman of the Year, led the league this season with eight assists. He recorded two assists in the home opener against Duquesne and had one against Cincinnati, UIC, Northern Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Detroit Mercy and Milwaukee. He also posted one goal as he scored in the final minutes recently at Valparaiso.

“This is the launch pad for Jackson,” said Davis. “Very often, he is on a different level in games than most of our opponents, but if you aren’t paying attention, what he adds is easy to miss. Moving forward, he is a key piece in our exciting young squad. I am excited that he has gotten now some regional recognition to go along with his league Freshman of the Year award from last year. He deserves it.”

Along with their regular-season Horizon League honors, both Stovall and Dietrich were chosen to the league’s All-Tournament Team.

“Both players are such a joy to coach and I am pleased that the fruits of our work as a team have rewarded them as individuals,” added Davis.

Stovall and Dietrich join senior forwards Peguy Ngatcha (First Team) and Eric Lynch (Second Team) in receiving All-Great Lakes Region honors. The four selections are the most ever for Wright State in a season since moving up to Division I in 1987 and are the most since four were named Division II All-Mideast Region in 1982 and 1983.

Wright State (11-6-3) won its first-ever Horizon League regular-season title in 2016 and advanced to the championship match of the league tournament for the third consecutive season.
