DETROIT — Twenty turnovers and a sub-par shooting performance seemed to be Central State University’s downfall in Wednesday night’s 86-67 road loss to the Warriors of Wayne State University.

Wayne State, a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), opened the game on a 7-0 run. The Marauders slowly cut down the Warrior’s lead and a Thomas Farrior jump shot tied the game up, 13-13, at the 11:19 mark of the first half. After a back and forth pace for the next 3 minutes, Jermaine Crowder hit from outside the arc to give the Marauders a 25-24 lead at the 6:27 mark. Wayne State regained momentum, finishing the half on a 18-5 run to take a 43-30 lead at the break.

Wayne State remained in control of the game throughout the majority of the second half. The Marauder cut the Warrior lead down to seven with 13 minutes to go, but WSU guard Ronald Booth scored three straight baskets to spark a 10-0 run to increase the lead to 63-46 with 10:34 left. CSU managed just four makes from the field in the final 10 minutes of play as the Warriors cruised to the 19-point victory.

Wayne State scored 27 points off of turnovers and held a 25-8 advantage in fastbreak points. CSU converted just 37.7% of its shot attempts while WSU shot 58.6% from the field.

Booth led all scorers with 23 points and a game-high five steals. Chuck Key chipped in with 14 points as the Warriors improved to 2-1 overall.

Farrior led CSU with 20 points. Keilan Blanks was the only other Marauder to score in double-figures with 10 on the night.

Falling to 2-2 overall, CSU hopes to rebound on Saturday when they open up Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play against Benedict College (S.C.) in the HBCU Fame City Classic at 1 p.m. The game will be played at Butchel High School in Akron.
