Alstork honored again

INDIANAPOLIS — For the second straight week, Mark Alstork, a 6-foot-5 junior guard for the Wright State University men’s basketball team, was named the Horizon League Player of the Week, Monday by league officials.

Alstork, a Dayton Thurgood Marshall graduate, collected 29 points as the Raiders defeated Miami, 89-87, and he scored a career-high 39 points in Saturday’s 82-78 loss to Toledo.

For the two games, Alstork averaged 34 points, eight rebounds and six assists while scoring 68 points in 68 minutes. Alstork currently leads the nation in scoring at 32.7 points per game.

Raiders fall to Toledo

FAIRBORN — Despite Mark Alstork’s career-high 39-point effort, Wright State University’s men’s basketball team (2-1) lost its first game of the season, Saturday at the Nutter Center. Toledo (2-1) claimed the 82-78 win behind a 44-point second half, led by Jaelan Sanford and Jonathan Williams who scored 23 and 22 points respectively.

Justin Mitchell scored 15 points and Steven Davis tossed in 11 in the Raiders’ loss.

Swimmers end early season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Wright State men’s and women’s swim teams ended their early seasons Sunday at the UofL Invitational, on the University of Louisville campus.

Top performances on the women’s team came from: Catrionna Bruce (second in the 500-meter freestyle time trial, 25.38 seconds); Ashlyn Roberts (first in the 100 butterfly time trial, 59.02); Cami Cahill (third in the 100 butterfly, 1:09.11); Shayna Salzman (won the 100 backstroke time trial, 59.71); Abby Saner and Cahill (first and third in the 200 breaststroke time trial. Saner’s winning time was 2:23.17; Cahill finished in 2:33.40).

Men’s top results were by: the 400 freestyle relay team of P.J. Musser, Chace Conley, Gavin Mickelson and Jake Pudik (third in 3:06.54); Trevor Keriazes (first in the 200 Individual Medlay time trial, 1:57.06); Ryan Schultz (second in the 200 IM time trial, 2:00.43); a 1-2-3 finish by WSU swimmers Bradford Johnson (1st, 21.02), Dominic Poletta (2nd, 21.24) and Conley (21.82) in the 50 freestyle time trial; a win by Johnson in the 100 breaststroke time trial (58.17), a win by Logan Frank in the 100 backstroke time trial (55.12) and a win by Austin Spruill (1:54.99) in the 200 butterfly time trial.

Host Louisville won both men’s and women’s team competitions. The Raiders were sixth in the six-team women’s competition, and third among the three men’s teams. The team will return to the winter portion of the schedule Jan. 21 when they will host Cleveland State at the WSU Natatorium.

Meet the team tonight at Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek’s basketball teams will be introduced 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the Ed Zink Fieldhouse at Beavercreek High School. The boys and girls high school and middle school teams will there along with cheerleaders, the pep band, the Beaverettes and the Beavercreek Stars.
