FAIRBORN — Mark Alstork was two assists shy of a triple double, scoring 29 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and recording eight assists as Wright State held on to beat Miami University, 89-87, Tuesday in front of 3,813 at the Nutter Center.

The guard from Thurgood Marshall High School scored 20 second-half points and also made five clutch free throws in the final minutes to help the Raiders, who blew a 21-point lead. Alstork’s 15 made free throws were four short of the WSU record, set by Julius Mays.

Steven Davis added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Justin Mitchell scored 14 points to go with seven rebounds. Grant Benzinger chipped in 13 points and five boards for the Raiders, who improved to 2-0 overall.

Wright State shot 52.9 percent in the first half in building a 53-32 halftime lead. However the shots didn’t fall in the second half as the Raiders hit on just 37 percent. Miami scored 12 straight in the second half to cut the lead to 53-44 with 15:58 left and gradually chipped away until taking a 62-61 lead with 8:32 left.

The score see-sawed back and forth but Alstork’s free throws down the stretch sealed the win. The game featured 13 lead changes and 11 ties.

Wright State continues its six-game homestand 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, against Toledo.
