Beavers advance in soccer
CENTERVILLE — The Beavercreek Beavers advanced to a boys soccer Division I district championship game with a 4-1 win Monday, Oct. 24 over Clayton Northmont at Legacy Field. Nicholas Togliatti scored twice and Dominic Calabresse and Ryan Bernt once for the Beavers. Calabresse and Josh Fleck assisted on goals. Beavercreek plays Cincinnati St. Xavier at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at Lakota East High School. The Bombers were the no. 6 seed in the Cincinnati bracket and entered the tournament 9-5-2 before beating Wilmington and Fairfield.
Supt. recognizes Bucs excellence
XENIA — Xenia Community Schools Superintendent Denny Morrison recognized several fall season coaches and athletes for their achievements, in his recent progress column:
“Congratulations to all of our fall athletes and coaches: We were Greater Western Ohio Conference American South Champions in volleyball, boys and girls soccer and boys golf. Cheyann McGee was (named) American South girls soccer Player of the Year; Joe Cloud was the American South boys soccer Player of the Year; Evan Adkins was the American South Player of the Year in golf; American South Coaches of the Year were Robert Rose in golf; Jessica Threats in volleyball; Jim Lamb in girls soccer; and Keenan Mikal in boys soccer.”
Stoll, Fletcher honorary coaches
XENIA — The Xenia High School football team named Mark Stoll and Fay Fletcher as its honorary coaches for Friday’s Week 10 football game at Doug Adams Stadium against Fairborn.
Stoll has been married to Debbie for 43 years and together they are the proud parents of two sons and a daughter. They are the proud grandparents of four grandchildren — Jordon, Aiden, Landon, and Chloe Miller. Stoll is a graduate of Central State University, Urbana University, and the University of Dayton. He is a registered and certified athletic administrator, holds a principal’s certificate, and a superintendent’s license.
Stoll began a career in education in 1980. He has served as an instructor, administrator, and athletic director for 36 years. He was Ohio High School baseball coach of the year four times in his coaching career, that included a basketball trip to the state final four. He is in three baseball coaching halls of fame, and is a sure first-ballot selection into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
In 2013 he was hired as the athletic director at Xenia Community Schools. During his three-year tenure, he made an impact on the athletes, coaches, and programs at Xenia. The senior football players chose Stoll as honorary coach, because of the impact his attitude and leadership had on them. They also chose him because of his love of Xenia and his personal commitment to excellence.
Fletcher is a Xenia graduate. She has four children, all who are Xenia graduates. She has two eighth-grade grandsons currently at Warner Middle School.
She received her paraprofessional certificate and began substitute teaching in 1998. She began full-time work in 1991 as a special needs aide, and served as a librarian at Springfield Shawnee High School for 13 years. She served as a classroom aide at Central and at Warner as a study hall aide. Her 25-year career ended three years ago with her retirement.
When asked about her favorite Xenia memory, Mrs. Fletcher writes: “There are too many to mention, but to be honored by these young men after being retired for three years is such an honor. For them to say I impacted their lives makes me feel so grateful, and I will never forget this and will never forget them.”
The senior football players chose Fletcher as honorary coach because of the impact she had on them, because of her commitment to Xenia, and her commitment to excellence.

CU men win G-MAC again
CANTON — Matthew Pelletier’s runner-up showing paced five Cedarville runners in the top 10 and guided the Yellow Jackets to their fifth straight Great Midwest Athletic Conference cross country crown.
The senior finished in 26:42 for the 8,000 meters on a muddy course at Malone University.
Cedarville scored 32 points while the host Pioneers were the runner-up with 48. Davis & Elkins was third with 70 points.
Wyatt Hartman finished fifth in 26:59 and Ethan Sullivan was sixth in 27:01. Rounding out the top 10 were Zac Bowen, ninth in 27:19, and Alec Weinhold, 10th in 27:22. Avery Traffie had his highest finish, coming in 20th in 27:46. Ethan Gatchell was 26th in 28:14.
Cedarville women five-peat in G-MAC
CANTON — Olivia Esbenshade and Carsyn Koch finished 1-2 to lead Cedarville to its fifth consecutive Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship.
The Yellow Jackets totaled 20 points while host Malone was the runner-up with 55. Trevecca was third with 66 points.
Esbenshade won the 6,000 meter race staged in wet, sloppy conditions in 22:52 while Koch was next in 22:56. Cedarville ended up with five of the top eight runners to cross the finish line. Hailey Blackwell placed fourth in 23:18, Kayla Casaletto fifth in 23:22, and Olivia Kundo eighth in 23:30. Christy Jesson was 11th in 23:43 and Nicole Perez 17th in 24:11.
Esbenshade joins two-time winner Alexandra Archambault (2012, 2013) as G-MAC individual champions.
WSU volleyball loses at NKU
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — The Wright State volleyball team was swept Sunday, Oct. 23 at Northern Kentucky, 13-25, 19-25, 17-25.
NKU dominated the match, out-hitting the Raiders and recording 48 kills, compared to WSU’s 37. Wright State (8-15, 3-7 Horizon League) plays at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 at Youngstown State, and at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Oakland (Mich.).

Clark State to Volley for the Cure
SPRINGFIELD – Clark State Community College will host the Ninth annual Volley for the Cure event, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 in the gymnasium on the Leffel Lane campus.
Teams from Clark State, Bobby Fisher Distributing and The Assurant Group will participate in Volley for the Cure. All monies raised are donated to the Breast Cancer Endowment Fund of Clark County. Additional activities include face painting, pumpkin painting, concessions, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.
Meet the FHS girls basketball team
FAIRBORN — The Fairborn girls basketball team will be introduced from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Fairborn Baker Middle School Gymnasium. The Fairborn Skyhawks youth basketball teams, Baker Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade teams, Fairborn High School junior varsity and the Fairborn varsity Team will all be introduced to the public and will demonstrate their skills. There will be concessions available, a 50/50 raffle, prizes and more.
