Greeneview tops Xenia volleyball team

JAMESTOWN — Ashley Schloss had six blocks, five kills and five aces to lead Greeneview to a 21-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-16 win over Xenia Sept. 14. Caitlin Sweat had five kills and five blocks while Brianna Seigfried had 17 assists. Jenna Basinger had eight digs. The Rams reserve team won, 25-18, 25-19.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Greeneview splits matches

JAMESTOWN — Greeneview’s middle school volleyball teams split a pair of matches with Springfield Catholic Central Sept. 14. The eighth-grade team overcame a big deficit in the second game en route to a 13-25, 25-23, 25-7 win. Leah Hoyle and Klarissa Knisley had nine and eight points respectively to lead the way. Rachel Strickle added seven and Elizabeth McDonald six. The team had 83 digs and passes.

The seventh-grade team lost 21-25, 25-9, 8-25. Emma Waller had her best match with 13 points, 12 digs and one block. Marissa Kincaid had six points and Kelsey Marsden and Sarah Trisel four each.

Lady Jackets ranked 14 in NCAA

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville jumped up 11 spots to No. 14 in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country Coaches National Poll.

The Lady Jackets made the move after finishing as the runner-up in the Queen City Invitational on Sept. 3. Fellow Midwest Region member Grand Valley State (Mich.) remains rated No. 1.

Cedarville is one of seven region schools appearing in the Top 25. The others are No. 7 Hillsdale (Mich.), No. 8 Southern Indiana, No. 9 Northern Michigan, No. 16 Lewis (Ill.), and No. 23 Wisconsin-Parkside.

The Lady Jackets host the 26th Annual Friendship Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

Cedarville blanks WVSU

CEDARVILLE — The Yellow Jackets had little problem in beating of West Virginia State, 9-0, in the first home match of the year at the Johnson-Murdoch Tennis Complex on Sept. 14.

Cedarville is 2-0. It’s first contest of the season last Saturday vs. Huntington had to be moved to Dayton indoors because of inclement weather. Against WVSU, doubles pairings were #1 Matt Brumbaugh and Alex Totten; #2 Ryan Shomo and Joel Clark; and #3 Stephen Combs and Jeremy Hoover. All six singles players won in straight sets.

Homecoming alumni, tickets

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Athletic Department would like to invite all Fairborn football alumni to attend Friday’s 2016 Homecoming game against the Troy Trojans. There will be a football alumni tent in the south endzone sponsored by BW3s in Beavercreek. There will be free food for all football alumni.

Presale tickets can be purchased from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16 and Friday, Sept. 17 in the high school athletic office $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are $8 at the gate.

Football players from Fairborn High School, Park Hills High School and Baker High School are welcome and kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Baker Memorial Stadium.

Xenia Tornadoes tryouts Sept. 17

XENIA — The Xenia Tornadoes semi-professional football team will hold a tryout for its 2017 team at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at Spring Hill Park, located just off Ormsby Drive. Tryouts are free, make sure you bring water cleats and shorts. Tryouts will consist of agility drills, route running, and more.

Wilberforce golf tournament

BEAVERCREEK — Wilberforce Bulldog Athletics will presents its first golf tournament to benefit the university athletic program Saturday, Sept. 24 at Beavercreek Golf Course, 2800 New Germany Trebein Road. CSU names induction class

WILBERFORCE — The 2016 Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held at Country Club of the North 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. All those planning to attend must RSVP prior to the event and purchase tickets on or before Friday, Oct. 2.

Five individuals and four teams make up this year’s class: Leonard “Tony” Blaine ‘62, John E. Day ‘71, Eric Love ‘83, Dr. Paul Nitz, James Rollins ‘96, 1960 & 1962 men’s cross country teams, 1983 football team and the 1991 women’s track & field team.
